What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 Stoughton Trailer, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ON HWY 10, RIGHT AFTER PHOENIX,AZ. MY LEFT BACK AXEL FROM MY 2001 STOUGHTON TRAILER VAN CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE MOBILE SERVICE CHANGED THE BEARINGS, HUB,SEAL, REPAIRS AND COST OF LABOR COST ME $1597.70, PLUS HE ALSO OPEN THE OTHER 3 CAPS OF THE AXELS AND PUT GREASE ON THEM, TELLING ME THAT ALL THE FOUR AXELS NEED NEW DRUMS AND THE 3 REMAIN AXELS THAT HE ONLY GREASED, DOES NEED NEW SEALS AND PROBABLY NEW BEARINGS. WHEN WE CONTINUE OUR TRIP TO LOS ANGELES, BEFORE COACHELLA, CA. OUR REAR BACK RIGHT TIRE FROM THE TRAILER EXPLODED, WE TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE NEAREST TRAVEL CENTER (4 MILES AWAY) AND HAD TO BUY ANOTHER TIRE AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE WAS CONCERN THAT THE TIRE EXPLODED BECAUSE THAT AXEL WAS LEAKING VERY HOT OIL AND HE RECOMMENDED THAT WE WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY , TO BUY AND CHANGE THIS TIRE COST ME $324.34. WE JUST BOUGHT IN JULY 14, 2010 THIS TRAILER VAN AND WAS GUARANTEED WITH ALL THE PERMITS> THE MOBILE SERVICE MECHANIC, AND THE TA MECHANIC,BOTH EMPHASIS ABOUT THAT THIS TRAILER IN THE LAST TIMES WAS NOT PROPERLY GREASED THEIR AXLES. *TR
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
