Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY

1,006 units potentially affected
The defect: Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2013 Dry Freight Van Trailers, model number S4280E99NFWOP, manufactured October 1, 2012, to July 15, 2013. As built, the trailers have tires that are more than 12 inches forward of the rear of the trailer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
The risk: Failing to meet the rear impact protection requirements increases the risk of injury to occupants of a vehicle that collides with the rear of the trailer.
The remedy: Strick will notify owners and will replace the fixed torque arm with an adjustable torque arm allowing for the rearward adjustment of the axle, free of charge. The recall began on September 29, 2015. Owners may contact Strick customer service at 1-704-436-2590.

The defect: Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2009-2015 Dry Freight Van Trailers manufactured April 25, 2008, to June 5, 2014. The affected trailers are equipped with rear impact guards using gusset part numbers 40033/40034, 43191/43192, 63133/63134 or 67046/67047. The rear impact guards with these gussets do not meet federal standards for strength and energy absorption. As such, these trailers do not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 223, "Rear Impact Guards."
The risk: If the trailer is struck from behind and the rear impact guards do not meet the required standards, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
The remedy: Strick will notify owners, and the rear impact guards of the trailers will be reinforced, free of charge. The recall began on December 5, 2014. Owners may contact Strick customer service at 1-704-436-2590.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
