1993 Subaru Impreza Airbags Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WE JUST PURCHASED A 1993 SUBARU IMPREZA 4 DOOR SEDAN. YESTERDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2004 WHILE WE WERE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WE WERE HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, OUR SUBARU WAS PROPELLED 5-15 FEET. THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. MY WIFE AN I REQUIRED EMERGENCY MEDICAL ATTENTION. I JUST NOTICED THAT NHTSA ISSUED A RECALL ON DEFECTIVE SUBARU AIRBAGS IN 1994, BUT THERE ISN'T EVEN AN OPTION TO SEARCH FOR A SUBARU PROBLEMS IN 1993. *AK

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED . TT A TOW HOOK LOCATED ON THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE PARKING LOT CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY, DEALER INITALLY REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THE DEPLOYMENT WAS ACCIDENT RELATED, THEY ALSO REFUSED TO AAUME ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT ONE OF THE SENSORS LOCATED ABOVE THE TOW HOOK WAS MORE SENISTIVE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.*JB
