The defect: THE VEHICLE OPERATORS ARE NOT AWARE THAT THE WHEELCHAIR HYDRAULIC SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CYCLED ON A DAILY BASIS TO INSURE THAT THE PRESSURE REQUIRED TO HOLD IT IN THE STOWED POSITION HAS NOT BLED OFF. IF THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE PLATFORM IN THE STOWED POSITION AND THE VEHICLE MAKES A LEFT TURN, THE LIFT CAN MOVE. THE MOVEMENT CAUSES THE BRAKE INTERLOCK TO ACTIVATE, ABRUPTLY STOPPING THE VEHICLE.
The risk: IF THE ABRUPT STOP HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS INTRAFFIC, AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING FOLLOWING VEHICLES CAN OCCUR. ALSO, PASSENGERSIN THE VEHICLE CAN BE INJURED.
The remedy: A DECAL INSTRUCTING THE OPERATORS OF THE VEHICLE TO CYCLE THE HYDRAULIC LIFT SYSTEM DAILY WILL BE SENT TO THE OWNERS FOR INSTALLATION ON THE ENGINE COVER.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 SUNNY BROOKE FIFTH WHEEL (NA). THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER FOR A REPAIR DEALER IN FLORIDA AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. HE DROVE FROM TENNESSEE TO FLORIDA, BUT THE PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN NEVER SHOWED UP TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE BACK TO TENNESSEE AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE FORM TENNESSEE TO FLORIDA. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO REMOVED HIS NAME FROM THE MOBILE REPAIR LIST. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, POWERTRAIN, RECALL NUMBER, AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE UNAVAILABLE.
