What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR SUZUKI OWNERS. THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED BY SUZUKI BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE LISTED AS A DEFECT REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. PLEASE DON'T LIMIT THE RECALL TO POST 2006 CARS IT'S BEEN HAPPENING TO EARLIER YEARS AS WELL. *TR

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
MY VEHICLE LOCKED AFTER SHUTTING THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR. I JUST PLACED MY SON IN THE CAR SEAT AND BUCKLED HIM. I SHUT THE DOOR AND WALK COMPLETELY AROUND THE CAR TO OPEN FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR. BEFORE I COULD OPEN DOOR, THE VEHICLE LOCKED ITSELF WITH MY SON, KEYS, AND PHONE INSIDE. IT WAS 94 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND HUMID. WE CALLED FOR HELP AND TRIED TO SLIDE ANTENNA IN TO UNLOCK. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP, GARRETT SAID THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THE NEW PARTS MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
