2005 Suzuki Gsx-R1000 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WHILE RIDING MY 2006 SUZUKI GSXR 1000 PURCHASED IN JAN. OF THIS YEAR A DOG ENTERED THE ROAD WHILE I WAS EXITING A TURN. I BROUGHT THE BIKE TO AN UPRIGHT POSITION AND APPLIED BOTH BRAKES. THE REAR OF MY BIKE WENT UP IN THE AIR TO ABOUT THE 11 O'CLOCK POSITION. I RELEASED MY FRONT BRAKES AND THE REAR CAME BACK DOWN STILL IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION BUT WHEN MY WHEEL MADE CONTACT WITH THE ROAD MY FRAME JUST UNDER THE GAS TANK BROKE IN HALF SEPARATING, SENDING ME INTO THE WOODS ALONG THE ROAD. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL TRAUMA CENTER VIA EMS WHERE I HAD TO HAVE THE TIBIA IN MY RIGHT LEG REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A ROD AND I ALSO BROKE MY RIGHT SHOULDER. AT THIS TIME NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR BIKE. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SUZUKI GSXR750. THE SHIFTER BROKE OFF WHILE THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE. THE SHIFTER DID BREAK WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH MOTORCYCLE BEFORE THIS FAILURE. THEY WERE GOING TO TAKE THE MOTORCYCLE TO THE DEALERSHIP , BUT AS OF NOW IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND TO DROP MOTORCYCLE WHEN THE SHIFTER BROKE, HE WAS MOVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, AND HURT HIS THUMB. *AK
