2010 Suzuki Kizashi Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The vehicle goes in the limp mode while accelerating uphill. At one occasion it went into the limp mode and stalled, very unsafe for highway. Turing it off and restarting needed. The transmission has issues that hasn't been addressed by the manufacturer.

TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) FOR THE CVT, THE TCM MAY DETECT AN ABNORMALITY IN THE CVT PULLEY RATIO UNDER AS A RESULT OF THE UNUSUAL MOVEMENT OF THE STEPPER MOTOR. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) MAY ILLUMINATE AND THE CVT COULD GO INTO A FAIL SAFE MODE RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE LOSING ACCELERATION. CONTACTED THE SUZUKI CORPORATION AND THEY STATE MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING THIS RECALL HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. RECALL NOTICE HAS BEEN OUT FOR THIS EXACT YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE, BUT DENIES THAT IT'S FOR THIS VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THIS VEHICLE WENT INTO LIKE A SAFETY TYPE MODE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT EXIT THE FAIL SAFE MODE AND NEEDS DEALERSHIP ATTENTION. I ALMOST DIED ON THE HIGHWAY FROM THIS ISSUE. *TR

THE CAR HAS LOW MILEAGE. FIRST THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WENT OUT. WE CALLED SUZUKI TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, THEY SAID NO. WE HAD TO SEARCH FOR A PART AND FINALLY HAD IT REPLACED AT GREAT COST. NOW A FEW MONTHS LATTER THIS HAPPENS. THE PASSANGER AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. CALLED TOYOTA DEALER. HE SAID IT IS PROBABLY JUST A BAD MSG, HAPPENS IN HAWAII ALL THE TIME, SO WE CONTINUED DRIVING IT. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON JAN 6, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISLAND OF HAWAII, AS WE TURNED LEFT ONTO THE MAIN HIGHWAY HEAR OCEANVIEW, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING BUT WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO A SAFE PLACE. WE COULD NOT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF UNTIL ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. WHILE THEY WERE TESTING THE CAR, IT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TESTING AND THEY COULDN'T RESTART IT. IT HAD 12 - 15 CODES THAT THEY HAD TO CLEAR. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME BACK AND COULD NOT BE CLEARED. NOW ONE WEEK LATER THE CAR IS STILL NOT FIXED AS THERE ARE NO "AIR BAG CONTROL MODULES" AVAILABLE IN HAWAII. IT WILL TAKE 2-4 WEEKS TO GET ONE. WE ARE HAVING TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. WE ONLY HAVE 37,000 MILES!

THE CAR HAS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEED ON A SUNNY DAY WILL GO INTO A FAILSAFE MODE, AND NO ERROR IS DETECTED BY THE CAR, LOSES THE ABILITY TO DOWNSHIFT, AND LOSES ACCELERATION. HAS BECOME A REOCCURRING ISSUE ON ALL LONG TRIPS AS THE CAR MUST BE ON THE ROAD OVER AN HOUR BEFORE THE INSTANCE WILL OCCUR. ALMOST ALWAYS WHEN IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WHICH CAUSES DRIVER TO HAVE TO PULL OVER AND WAIT FOR THE CAR TO COOL BEFORE THE CAR WILL ALLOW ITSELF OR THE DRIVER TO DOWNSHIFT EVEN IN AUTOMATIC OR MANU-MATIC CONFIGURATION. PLEASE ISSUE THE SAME RECALL FOR THE 2010 THAT YOU DID FOR THE 2013. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THE INSTANCE OCCURRING IF NEEDED.

Currently have a airbag light on my dash that only goes away for a minute when i hit a bump as well as the passenger seat not detecting there is someone there so their airbag light says its off, no one will help when you call suzuki but they want to keep sending things like fuel tank may crack and occupant classification system or about the airbags, me and my passenger or just me are at risk of definitely a head injury because of our airbags not even working because the seat is not detecting us, my airbag light stays on never comes off since 2023 but suzuki dont want to offer any help, this car has become a problem with all the money being put into it just for there to be recalls and my car not wanting to work half the time

NHTSA ID 11754630 · filed Aug 4, 2026

I have received multiple recall notifications for problems with air bag on the passenger side, and a fuel tank that Suzuki says may crack. It would be great to have these things taken care of, but the repair providers that Suzuki has authorized are both 3 HOURS away! That means 6 hours total driving time, which is quite unreasonable. Does the NHTSA have any authority to either 1) get Suzuki to authorize a shop a reasonable distance from me, or, 2) have Suzuki reimburse me for recall repairs done at a local facility? I have called Suzuki myself, but they are extremely unhelpful. They made their money when they sold the car, and seem to be extremely unwilling to promote any lasting good will.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUZUKI KIZASHI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 09/21/15*LJ

TIRES WENT BAD ON THIS CAR VERY FAST. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY EVEN AGREED THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN GOING BALD. I REALLY DID NOT THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL I TOOK THE CAR ELSEWHERE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME TO CHECK INTO MY WARRANTY. THE DEALER NOT EVEN ROTATED MY TIRES THE OTHER PLACE DID IT, I HAD TO PROVE THAT I HAD THEM ROTATED WHICH I DID. SUZUKI DID NOT CARE. THEY SAID THE TIRES ARE 24,000 MILE TIRES!! THERE HAS GOT TO BE A REASON TIRES GO AT 15000 MILES THIS IS WHEN WE NOTICE THAT WE WERE GOING TO NEED TIRES. WATCH THEM WE ALWAYS THOUGH GOODYEAR/DUNLOP WAS A DECENT TIRE. *TR

IN THE PAST 13 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE A ENGINE REPLACEMENT IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS POURING CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE CAR, I WENT TO PICK THE VEHICLE UP AFTER BEING REPAIRED FOR OVER A MONTH AT THE SUZUKI DEALERSHIP IN CHARLOTTE, NC. I DROVE THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES AWAY WHERE THE VEHICLE CUT OFF AS I WAS MAKING A TURN INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. AFTER SEVERAL MORE WEEKS OF BEING AT THE DEALERSHIP I LEFT WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION ALONG WITH THE NEW MOTOR. 6 WEEKS LATER THE TRANSMISSION BROKE DOWN AGAIN WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT A SUZUKI DEALERSHIP IN HICKORY, NC. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR 6 MORE WEEKS WHEN THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN FOR A THIRD TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. NONE OF THESE BREAK DOWNS HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT I FEAR THE TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR IS ENDANGERING MY LIFE AND MY CHILD'S LIFE. I HAVE HAD A SUZUKI ENGINE EXPERT FROM THE HICKORY SERVICE CENTER LOOK AT MY CAR AND HE CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BREAKDOWN THE LAST TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED IN JANUARY OF 2014 I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT TIRES I WAS TOLD AN ALIGNMENT WAS NEEDED BECAUSE THE CAR WAS DESTROYING IN THE INNER SIDE OF MY FRONT TIRES. I HAVE HAD TWO ALIGNMENTS AND A WHOLE NEW SET OF TIRES ON THE FRONT OF MY CAR AND AGAIN I AM NEEDING TO REPLACE THEM AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHY THIS IS HAPPENING JUST THAT THIS CAR IS PROBLEMATIC. I FEAR THAT I HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL OTHER RESOURCES I WAS SOLD A LEMON AND IF I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW SUZUKI WOULD OF BEEN OBLIGATED TO REPLACE THIS VEHICLE UNDER LEMON LAW BUT BECAUSE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED. I PURCHASED SOMETHING THAT I FEEL COULD ENDANGER MY CHILD OR MYSELF. *TR
