2004 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SINCE DAY ONE THERE HAS BEEN A HESITATION FROM 3000-4000 RPMS. IT WAS TAKEN TO 2 DEALERS AND NO REMEDY WAS FOUND. I WAS TOLD BY BOTH SERVICE MANAGERS THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AT SUZUKI FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, AND THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY NO CURE. THE MOTORCYCLE IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE AND COULD LEAD TO AN UNAVOIDABLE ACCIDENT. THE CYCLE NOW HAS 4500 MILES ON IT. *AK

MOTORCYCLE MISSES AND HESITATES DOR OPERATION BETWEEN 3,000 AND 4,000 RPMS WHEN WARM. SOMETIMES STALLS. PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED IN INTERNET USER GROUPS. BIKE HAS BEEN TO DEALER TO BE FIXED. DEALER SAYS HE TALKED WITH SUZUKI AND THE BIKE IS RUNNING AS GOOD AS ITS GOING TO WITHOUT GOING AFTERMARKET AND INSTALLING EQUIPMENT THAT WILL VOID WARRANTY. COULD BECOME DANGEROUS AS HESITATION AND STALLING IS MOST NOTICABLE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND INTERSECTIONS.*AK

VIOLATION OF MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, UCC AND CALIFORNIA CODE PURCHASE OF 2004 SUZUKI DL1000.*MR THE MOTORCYCLE WAS DELIVERED ON 6/11/2004. UPON DRIVING THE MOTORCYCLE THE E CONSUMER NOTICED THAT HE MOTORCYCLE WAS MISSING, SURGING AND HESITATION ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THE MOTORCYCLE ALSO STOPPED OPERATING WHILE SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT THEY WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL BUT THAT HE MANUFACTURER HAD GIVEN THEM SOME TEST TO RUN. THE DEALER THEN DETERMINED THAT THEY MAY HAVE DETERMINED THE PROBLEM BUT HAD TO ORDER THE PART NECESSARY TO FIX THE MOTORCYCLE. THE CONSUMER REQUEST A REFUND FOR THE COST OF THE BIKE SINCE THE DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *NM

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
