2004 Thor California Tahoe Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

TIRE VALVE STEM FAILURES ON ALL 5 TIRES OF A THOR INDUSTRIES TRAVEL TRAILER. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A REALLY UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #08T028000 FOR VALVE STEMS IDENTIFIED AS TR 413. MY VALVE STEMS WERE MARKED WITH THIS DESIGNATION, AS WELL AS "ARGO" ON THE VALVE STEM BASE. THE RECALL SEEMS TO COVER PRODUCTION DATES OF NOV 2006 THRU JULY 2007. MY TRAILER WAS PURCHASED NEW IN LATE 2004, AND THE TIRE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE TIRES ON THE WHEELS WERE MADE IN 2003. THIS BEING THE CASE, THERE ARE DEFECTIVE VALVE STEMS OUT ON THE ROAD COVERING DATES FAR EARLIER THAN THE DATES BEING INVESTIGATED. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SITUATION WHERE ALL 5 VALVE STEMS ON A TRAILER CRACKED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE AFTER ONLY ABOUT 5 YEARS OF FIELD USE. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE IN DISCOVERING THE FAILING VALVE STEMS PRIOR TO LEAVING ON A SUMMER ROAD TRIP. WHEN I FLEXED TWO OF THE VALVES, THEY LITERALLY BLEW INTO A FAILURE. THE OTHERS WERE SEVERELY CRACKED, AND WOULD HAVE ALSO FAILED SOON. IF YOU NEED TO CONTACT ME ON THIS MATTER, MY CELL PHONE IS 503 816 5644. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE VALVES, AS WELL AS ONE VALVE THAT I KEPT AFTER REPLACEMENT. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO FURTHER ASSESS THE TIME FRAME THAT THESE VALVES ENTERED THE US MARKET. *TR

Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
