Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Mercedes-Benz Campaign #2025070001 Software Update. Mercedes-Benz AG, the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, has determined that on certain Model Years 2017-2021 Sprinter vehicles, the software of the engine control unit might not meet specifications. In this case, the IUMPR function of the OBD system might not perform as intended under certain circumstances. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer will update the Engine Control Unit software on your vehicle in connection with this Service Campaign at no charge to you.

CSA-044

ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)

From Mercedes-Benz: Mercedes=Benz is extending the coverage of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve on vehicle from the vehicle's basic warranty of 5 years/100,000 miles to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) and applies to the vehicle regardless of ownership. Extension is being given because M/B has determined that dimensional variations during engine valve seating may cause the EGR valve to be switched off, and the vehicle may experience a loss of power and enter a limp home mode. The MIL will illuminate and remain illuminated until the vehicle is serviced. When this occurs, the driver may perceive a jerky driving experience while operating the vehicle.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Stopped using the lights we had been using due to expense. Replaced with these, but these new lights have to be wired in instead of just clicking in. These are the instructions to wire in.

CSA-033

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT

Lippert Components, Inc (LCI) has released a technical service bulletin. The specific motorhomes involved in the service bulletin have a Basecamp leveling system controller that may be unresponsive after the coach’s ignition has been cycled. LCI has released a service bulletin to replace the controller if it becomes unresponsive.

CSA-028

SEATS

Mercedes-Benz NHTSA # 23V101 Swivel Seat Wire Harness Routing - Certain Sprinter vehicles equipped with electrical adjustable front swivel-seats, the electrical wiring harness might become damaged when a front swivel seat is adjusted. In the event of a damaged wiring harness, the function of the side airbag installed in the seat back might be impaired. This could increase the risk of injury.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
