2004 Toyota Corolla Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK IN PLACE WHEN ADJUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO MADE AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE FAILURE BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BRACKET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

ON DECEMBER 5, 2009, I COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE THROUGH THE FRONT DOORS BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS LOCKS (MANUALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY). I HAD TO CRAWL AND GET OUT OF THE CAR THROUGH THE REAR DOOR. GOOD THING THIS IS A 4 DOOR VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS IF THE WHOLE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. THIS DEFECT CAUSES THE DOORS TO BE INOPERABLE. NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FEELING THAT I COULD ONE DAY BE TRAPPED AND HAVE TO BREAK A WINDOW TO GET OUT. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A VERTICAL WIRE IN THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN AN OCCUPANT IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE WIRE COMES THROUGH AND STICKS THEM IN THEIR BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $700. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,790.

THE LOCK CYLINDERS ON BOTH FRONT DOORS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE PASSENGER SIDE (WHICH I RARELY USE) WILL NO LONGER UNLOCK; THE DRIVER SIDE WILL NO LONGER LOCK. I HAVE NEVER USED THE OUTSIDE LOCK TO LOCK THE DOOR SO DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE MECHANIC TOLD ME. $450 TO FIX BOTH LOCKS BUT I NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET IN THE CAR. *TR

I BOUGHT A TOYOTA COROLLA 2004 SEDAN FROM GORDIE BOUCHER NISSAN, 10606 W. ARTHUR AVENUE, WEST ALLIS, WISCONSIN, PHONE NO. 414-543-1234 ON SEPT. 27TH. THE CAR WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, AND BOTH MY HUSBAND, JOY JOSEPH AND I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THE HEAD RESTS FOR THE BACK SEATS WERE MISSING. WHEN WE FOUND THAT WE BROGHT THIS TO THE DEALER'S ATTENTION. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO GET US TWO HEAD RESTS FOR THE BACK. MY HUSBAND WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AS WE STILL HAVE THE FULL WARRANTY FROM TOYOTA, AND THEY ARE ALSO NOT WILLING TO PROVIDE US WITH THE HEAD RESTS. I KNOW THAT IN A COLLISSION IT WILL BE DANGEROUS TO HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT WHERE THEY WILL HAVE SEVERE NECK INJURIES. BEFORE SOMETHING SEVERE HAPPENS, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE HEAD RESTS IN PLACE. PLEASE HELP ME IN GETTING THIS RESOLVED.

WHILE SITTING IN THE REAR SEAT WITH LEGS EXTENDED OUT THE PASSENGERS FOOT WAS BADLY CUT ON A SHARP INSTRUMENT WHICH WAS USED TO MOVE THE SEAT BACK AND FORTH. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE BLOOD IN THE VEHICLE DID BELONG TO THE PASSENGER. TOYOTA STILL HAS THE VEHICLE IN THEIR POSSESSION. HOWEVER, NOTHING WAS DONE. *AK
