2000 Toyota Toyota Truck Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2000 Toyota Toyota Truck, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I OWN A TUNDRA SR5 PICKUP YEAR 2000 WHOSE FRAME IS RUSTING BADLY. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO TOYOTA WITH NO RESULTS. *TR

NHTSA ID 10292664 · filed Nov 18, 2009

I OWNED A 2000 TUNDRA WITH A RUSTED FRAME. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA BODY SHOP AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS DANGEROUS AND NOT REPAIRABLE. I PROCEEDED TO ANOTHER DEALER, TRADED IT IN ON A 2008 TUNDRA BECAUSE OF THE ADVICE FROM THE TOYOTA BODY SHOP. IN ADDITION, I HAVE RETAINED ALL OF MY RECORDS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. *TR

SEVERE BRAKE VIBRATION. TURNED ROTORS, AND NEW PADS TO NO AVAIL. *JB

NHTSA ID 10110371 · filed Feb 11, 2005

2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA BRAKE VIBRATION PROBLEM - BRAKES CAN CAUSE VIOLENT VIBRATION OF FRONT AND REAR OF VEHICLE WHICH CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL ON WET SURFACES DUE TO BOUNCING OF VEHICLE. I AM SURPRISE THE NHTSA HAS NOT REQUESTED RECALL DUE TO THE VOLUME OF COMPLAINTS PLACED WITH THE ADMINISTRATION. TOYOTA SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH, THE TREAD ON ONE OF MY FUTURA LTE 2000 P215/65R15 CAME COMPLETELY OFF. BEFORE AND DURING LONG TRIPS (LIKE THIS ONE), I CHECK AND VERIFY THAT THE AIR PRESSURE OF THE TIRES IS 35 PSI AND ALL TIRES WERE HOLDING THEIR PRESSURE JUST FINE (I.E. NO LEAKS). I HAD LAST CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE THE PREVIOUS EVENING. *TR

2000 TUNDRA WITH 60,900 MILES ON IT. (RIGHT - 900 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY.) OVERDRIVE STARTED MAKING NOISE WHEN ENGAGING AND WHINE WHILE DRIVING. OUT OF OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION SOUND FINE. BROUGHT TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND THEY HAD DISTRICT REP DRIVE IT. DETERMINED THAT THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY OF IT. CALLED THE MANUFACTURE AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WILL GET ME IN CONTACT WITH THE DISTRICT MANAGER WHO MADE DECISION. *NM

MY FOLKS HAPPEN TO OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP, 4-CYL WITH/AUTO TRANSMISSION SINCE IT WAS NEW. WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS IN USE AND THE DRIVER APPLIES THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN THE FAN IS TURNED-ON, WITH THE AIR-CONDITIONER SWITCH ALREADY ON WHICH ACTIVATES THE AIR-CONDITIONER IMMEDIATELY. I ASSUME THIS CONDITIONS EXITS TO COMPENSATE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER LOAD ON THE ENGINE. HOWEVER, I'VE DRIVEN MANY OTHER VEHICLES THAT FUNCTION JUST FINE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ACTIVATED WITHOUT HAVING TO LURCH THE VEHICLE FORWARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. THE PROBLEM HAS SEVERAL TIMES NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER VEHICLES - NEAR MISSES. MY FOLKS HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THE DEALER KEEPS CLAIMING THAT THE VEHICLE IS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. SO IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY PURPOSELY DESIGNED A VEHICLE THAT WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. I HAD TO CHECK THIS OUT FOR MYSELF BECAUSE IT SEEMED TOO RIDICULOUS TO BE BELIEVED AND I WAS SURPRISED WHEN IT HAPPEN TO ME. IT TAKES AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STILL WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ACTIVATED AND THE SLIGHTEST RELEASE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD. THIS HAS BEEN A GOING ON SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW SO THE DATE BELOW ONLY A FORMALITY TO FILE THIS COMPLIANT. IF THERE IS ANY INTEREST IN THIS COMPLAINT THE VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW. *TR

ENGINE SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE OR WHEN PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. PROBLEM WENT ON FOR OVER A YEAR. IT TOOK THREE DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED DEALERS BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS LOCATED. IT WAS FINALLY REPAIRED WHEN SERVICE MAN MODIFIED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. *NLM

I HAVE NOT HAD AN INCIDENT YET, HOWEVER I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO REAR HEAD RESTRAINT FOR PASSANGERS IN THE REAR SEAT. DURING ACCELERATION I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL PEOPLES HEAD HITTING THE REAR GLASS (ESPECIALLY CHILDREN). I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SOMEONES HEAD GOING THROUGH THE GLASS, ESPECIALLY IF I WERE REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE IS NOTHING IN PLACE TO PREVENT THE HEAD OF A REAR SEAT PASSENGER FROM GOING THROUGH THE GLASS IN THE REAR WINDOW. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE DESIGN.*AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
