2006 Toyota Tundra Problems

The vehicle was at the independent mechanic. For a repair and discovered that the bottom frame was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was also notified of the failure; however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 330,000.

My frame is rotting, with literal holes in it. I spoke with a dealership and they stated the recall had been fixed in 2015, prior to me owning it. I was told to contact the manufacturer and they said it would be an out of pocket expense. When I research the recall, the affected area of the frame is the same, with no apparent fixes.

Tried to make an appointment with Ray Brandt Toyota in Kenner Louisiana. Made the appointment online, but could not get someone to call me back telling me if the airbag part was in I tried calling countless times I tried going through their website. Chat nothing. I’m going to have to drive over an hour away to another Toyota dealership, due to this once lack of concern towards their customers. I don’t even feel safe driving my vehicle due to metal being in the airbags.

I have been trying to get my airbag changed from recall. Toyota will not do the repair. They refuse to pick up my truck. My Reference number at Toyota is 220901001583. This is the number Toyota corp. gave to me. Twice corp. set up the repair both times dealers refused to come get it. Now corp. says I have to bring it in to get the repair. For two years they have been sending me recall notices saying they will come and get the vehicle. now they refuse to do that. I will not take it to Toyota. they have wasted enough of my time already. AIR PRESSURE IN ONE TIRE CONSTANTLY DEFLATES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT DUE TO THE POROSITY CHROME OF THE WHEELS, AIR LEAKS OUT FROM THE WHEEL CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. *TR

Good afternoon, my name is Anthony Eakins, and I live in south west Florida. I have a 2006 Toyota tundra and I absolutely love my truck I believe this is one of the best trucks on the road even though it was built in 2006 (275,000 miles) The issue I'm having is my frame is to the point where I will have to get rid of my truck. The other issue is the frame is so bad I can't even sell my truck. I know there was a recall several years back and I'm curious why my truck is not part of this recall. My truck is rusting right above the rear leaf spring shackles and right at the bend by the motor. I have taken extremely good care of this truck it stays in my garage and the frame has been sprayed with under coating professionally every two years. I even have a detailed list of everything that's been done with this truck since 40,000 miles. Since my truck has been taken care of very well, I have not had any issues until now. I know Toyota is a very reliable vehicle and was curious if there's anything you can do to help me with the situation. AUTONATION TOYOTA WOULD NOT INSTALL REAR TOW HITCH DUE TO SEVERITY OF FRAME RUST. CAUTIONING THAT ANY SORT OF IMPACT WOULD TOTAL THE VEHICLE. AFTER READING SEVERAL REVIEWS STATING VERY SIMILAR RUST PROBLEMS I HAVE STARTED AN ONLINE PETITION AGAINST TOYOTA. EVEN IF THE FRAME IS REPLACED THE RUST HAS AFFECTED MANY COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. SEVERE BODILY HARM OR DEATH CAN OCCUR.

REPLACEMENT OF SECONDARY AIR INJECTOR PUMP AND ASSOCIATED VALVES. EXTREMELY HIGH FAILURE RATE WHICH PUTS ENGINE IN LIMP MODE. THIS COULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT TIME OF FAILURE.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM ANOTHER MAN. THE TRUCK WOULD STEER OFF WHEN IT WOULD HIT A SMALL BUMP OR HOLE IN THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO GOODYEAR TO SEE IF IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ALIGNMENT AND FOUND OUT THE WHOLE FRONT END SUSPENSION AND EVERYTHING ATTACHED TO IT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE TRUCK IS MOTION AND HAVE HAD TO CHANGE AND ROTATE THE TIRES MORE THAN ONCE WITHIN THIS YEAR. THERE IS WEAR ON THE FRONT TIRES ON THE OUTSIDE. I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THEM AGAIN WHEN WE FIX THE ALIGNMENT. THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON ANY STREET AND IS PRETTY SCARY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE TIRES SOUND LIKE I'M PEELING OUT OR THE TIRE IS FLAT AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I CAN'T MAKE SHARP TURNS BECAUSE THE TIRES START SKIPPING. The yoke assembly on rear driveshaft broke and the rear part of shaft fell to the ground while making a turn on paved road. I was about to back down an inclined boat ramp to put boat in river. The boat was an aluminum john boat, motor and trailer not weighing over 800 pounds. Vehicle and boat could have gone in river or the truck could have hit someone. The vehicle was towed and is being repaired by local repair shop. There were no warning lights or any unusual noise prior to the incident. The truck has 135,000 miles on the odometer. The shop were the repairs are being done said this was a common problem he has seen on many Toyota Tundras and not any particular year.

I'VE OWNED THE TRUCK FOR A YEAR BOUGHT ON DEC 2019 3RD OWNER. I SEE THAT MINES NOT LISTED AS RECALLED FOR FRAME RUST BUT I'M NOT SURE WHY WHEN THE GAS TANK LOOKS LIKE IT GOING TO FALL OFF AND SEEMS ONLY CRITICAL SECTIONS ARE SEVERELY RUSTED LIKE THE GAS TANK AND WHERE THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER SITS. I COULD ONLY SEE THESE SPOTS NOW BECAUSE THEY ARE HARD TO SPOT PLACES WHERE THE FRAME JOINS.

THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK BRACKET WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 1808302087. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.

My ruck was recalledseveral years agofor the frame. To correct this issuea toyota dealer spray the frame.this did not stop the frame from rusting.a lot of other people I talked to said their frames replaced with no questions asked. But not mine.when I talked toyota for the new england territory, I was just given a run around. And nothing was done. There have been other recalls such as the air bag recall Iam not sure that was done correctly. Recently I took my toyota to toyota of Keene NH. I was told that they found other issues like the yransfer case was cracked in half. And there was a priblem with the head lights. Yes I can see there was a problem with the lights, someone at toyota service did not plug them backin after they checked them. I had to move the battery to get at the head light think it was a bad bulb, not. And I lost the screw to the battery compartment some where intheengine area. I take great steps to keep my truck safe to drive and clean to look at.

ON 10/02/14 THE ORIGNAL BATTERY IN THE TRUCK FAILED. IT WAS REPLACED WITH AN INTERSTATE BATTERY,#MTP24. THIS BATTERY FAILED AND WAS AGAIN REPLACED WITH ANOTHER INTERSTATE BATTERY ON 10/8/15 AT NO CHARGE. THIS BATTERY FAILED AND WAS REPLACED AGAIN TODAY, 4/18/16. GREG LEBLANC TOYOTA @ 220 S. THE REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER NOT TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THREE TRANSMISSIONS SINCE PURCHASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE ENGINE WOULD RACE EXTREMELY HIGH. THE HIGH IDLE WOULD ALSO EFFECT THE WAY THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO GEAR. UPDATED 11/12/10 THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS A GROMMET AND THE FLOOR BOARD HAS A GROMMET, BUT THERE IS NO HOOK TO HOLD THE FLOOR MAT IN PLACE. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. TOYOTA TUNDRA 2006 DOUBLE CAB 4WD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I WAS 4 WHEELING AND STOPPED BEHIND A POLARIS, BY APPROXIMATELY 5 FEET. I WAS IN DRIVE AND 4WD AND BRAKES APPLIED. I STOPPED BECAUSE THE POLARIS HAD STOPPED. ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED MY TUNDRA LUNGED FORWARD AT A VERY HIGH RPM CRASHING INTO THE POLARIS. AT THAT POINT I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. HAD I NOT RESPONDED WITH THE ACTION I TOOK I WOULD HAVE SHOVED THE POLARIS WITH 2 PEOPLE INTO A VERY DEEP WASH. NEEDLESS TO SAY THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF DAMAGE DONE TO MY TOYOTA. THE TOYOTA HAS MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. HAD I NOT TAKEN THE ACTION THAT I DID, WE ALL WOULD HAVE ENDED UP IN THE DEEP WASH WITH MAJOR INJURIES. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I IMMEDIATELY CALLED TIM'S TOYOTA IN PRESCOTT ARIZONA WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE 2 PEOPLE THAT COULD HELP ME WITH THE SITUATION WERE NOT AVAILABLE SO A CALL TO THEM TOMORROW WILL BE IN ORDER. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AS YET AS I FEEL THAT TOYOTA IS THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY FOR THE ACCIDENT. FRONT TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY HOLDING BRACKETS BROKE AND BECAME DIS ATTACH FROM TRUCK BODY. THE HOLD ASSEMBLE IS MADE OF PLASTIC. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE LEFT SIDE TURN LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS HANGING BY WIRE.THIS HAPPEN EARLY IN THE MORNING ON A STATE HIGHWAY.

I FOUND THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT ON THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SHOWING PREMATURE WEAR AND FRAYING, THE SPOT IS IN THE CENTER TO THE BELT, IN A LOCATION THAT SITS ON THE DRIVERS LAP, NOT NEAR THE BUCKLE OR ANYWHERE IT SHOULD RUB. *AK

There is a bracket under the drivers seat, left side of seat, that is cracked all the way through just above the weld where it attachs to the horizontal tube that rotates when the power lever is pushed forward or backward. This bracket is associated with the "seat back" tilting forward or backward. This bracket being broken, allows the drivers seatback to be unstable and can be tilted forward in the event of an accident.

THE CONTACT SPOKE TO A SUPERVISOR AT TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE WHOM INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHCILE TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE CURRENT RECALL REMEDY HOWEVER IT WAS NOT GUARANTEED THAT TOYOTA WOULD BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD AS IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.

I HAVE A FIBERGLASS CAP ON THE BED OF MY PICKUP TRUCK. WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS, OR DURING ANY INCLEMENT WEATHER, I CAN NOT SEE OUT THE BACK WINDOW OF THE CAP. THERE IS NO WIPER FOR THE BACK WINDOW.. ALL SUV TYPE VEHICLES HAVE A WIPER, BUT NOT TRUCK CAPS. WHY? I UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR FMVSS NO. 111, REAR VIEW MIRRORS, STATES THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW, TO THE HORIZON, CLEARLY. WITHOUT A WIPER THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE. WHEN THE CAPS ARE INSTALLED ON THE TRUCKS IT BLOCKS THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT, AND YOU MADE THE CAP MANUFACTURERS PUT AN UPPER REAR BRAKE LIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE CAPS. SINCE THE CAP MANUFACTURERS ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE RULE, YOU SHOULD FORCE THEM TO INSTALL WIPERS ON ALL THEIR CAPS. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I READ ON A MICHELIN WIPER BLADE ADVERTISEMENT THAT 40% OF ALL ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED BY REDUCED VISION. LTR FROM (TX) REPORTING PROBLEMS WITH HIS 2006 TUNDRA MOTOR VEHICLE. *TS THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS A PROBLEM DOWN SHIFTING 2 GEARS ON MINOR GRADE FOR NO REASON, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV TO OVER 4000 RPMS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE BRAKE WILL FADE WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE STOPPING DISTANCE ON THE VEHICLE WAS MUCH LONGER THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE THE CONSUMER HAD DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE. THERE WAS AN ODOR FROM THE AIR CONDITION. THE TIRE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, BUT IT WAS RESOLVED.
