2008 Triumph Bonneville Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

RIGHT FOOT PEG BROKE OFF WHEN I PUT MY WEIGHT ON IT TO MOUNT THE MOTORCYCLE. MOTORCYCLE WAS STATIONARY IN THIS INSTANCE, BUT COULD HAPPEN AT SPEED IF A RIDER WERE TO STAND ON THE PEGS WHILE RIDING. THE BOLT ATTACHING THE FOOT PEG CLEVIS TO THE FRAME FRACTURED. PICTURES OF THE FACE OF THE BOLT ATTACHED. I AM UNAWARE OF A PRIOR ACCIDENT INVOLVING THIS VEHICLE THAT WOULD HAVE COMPROMISED THAT BOLT, ALTHOUGH THE BIKE HAS BEEN DROPPED SLOWLY ON THAT SIDE WHILE THAT BIKE WAS NOT IN MOTION. I AM THE MOTORCYCLE'S ORIGINAL OWNER. THE BOLT MAY BE TOO WEAK FOR THE APPLICATION. I AM AWARE OF SEVERAL OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS BOLT BREAKING, SOMETIMES WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS IN MOTION.

WHILE RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE OVER BUMP IN THE ROAD, AT 25 MPH, THE RIGHT FOOT PEG DEPARTED FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. MY RIGHT FOOT MADE CONTACT WITH ROAD SURFACE. NO INJURY. I RETRIEVED THE BROKEN PEG FROM ROAD FOR INSPECTION. I OBSERVED THAT THE MOUNTING CLEVIS BOLT SHEARED AT THE CONNECTION TO THE OUTRIGGER. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
