2008 Triumph Rocket Iii Classic Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I AM THE OWNER OF A TRIUMPH 2008 ROCKET CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE VIN #[XXX]. I HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER (TRIUMPH US) REGARDING AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT I HAVE NO GROUNDS FOR COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE WORK IS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. PROBLEMS TO DATE ARE AS FOLLOWS 'IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT 'FULL WIRING HARNESS AND IGNITION SWITCH # 2 REPLACEMENT 'ECU INTERMITTENT CONNECTION 'INTERMITTENT INSTRUMENT LIGHTS .PROBLEM NOT DUPLICATED BUT CONTINUED. 'AS THE WORK ORDER (#30900508) CLEARLY STATES 'UPON INSPECTION TECHNICIAN FOUND LOOSE CONTACT AT HARNESS SIDE OF IGNITION PLUG. DISASSEMBLED PLUG. PLUG WAS CLEANED & MODIFIED TO ENSURE TIGHTER FIT TO CONNECTOR'. FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER THIS CONNECTOR IS ALSO THE CURRENT PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED THE MOTOR TO CUTOUT ON THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION I THINK YOU WOULD AGREE? (SO CAL TRIUMPH) I AM A MEMBER OF 2 TRIUMPH FORUMS AND HAVE FOUND THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILURES ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL ARE FREQUENT. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THIS MOTORCYCLE HAS A HIGH DEGREE OF IGNITION SWITCH FAILURES WHICH ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AS THE MOTOR WILL CUTOUT WHILE RIDING. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
