What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2012 Triumph Tiger 800, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
Reports by component
Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category
- Engine133.3%
- Exterior lighting133.3%
- Powertrain (other)133.3%
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

VEHICLE IS A 2012 TRIUMPH TIGER 800 MOTORCYCLE WITH 980 MILES. BIKE RAN FLAWLESSLY UNTIL TODAY WHEN IT DEVELOPED A RANDOM ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM THAT OCCURS AS THE THROTTLE IS INITIALLY APPLIED, REGARDLESS OF CLUTCH ACTION OR POSITION. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN STOPPED AS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND CAN CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MOTORISTS AREN'T EXPECTING THE BIKE TO BLOCK THE INTERSECTION. THIS IS A CLASS PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MOTORCYCLE. I AM A MEMBER OF A TIGER 800 FORUM AND THIS ISSUE AFFECTS ABOUT 30% OF THE OWNERS THERE AND THE NUMBER OF CASES KEEPS GROWING. I BELIEVE IT WILL AFFECT VIRTUALLY EVERY TIGER 800 IN TIME. MY OPINION AS A FAIRLY EXPERIENCED MECHANIC IS THAT THERE IS LIKELY AN ISSUE WITH THE BIKE'S IDLE AIR CONTROL SYSTEM OR THROTTLE BODIES. WE HAVE HEARD OFF THE RECORD THAT TRIUMPH IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY HAVE NEITHER ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE PUBLICLY THAT I AM AWARE OF NOR HAVE WE ANY IDEA IF/WHEN THERE WILL BE A SOLUTION. *TR

NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V104000 ("DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ERROR, THE TURN SIGNAL STEMS ON THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE MOTORCYCLE MAY FRACTURE. ") IS ALREADY IN EFFECT FOR SOME TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES, INCLUDING MY MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. THE VIN ON MY TRIUMPH DOES NOT FALL INTO THIS RECALL FOR SOME REASON, BUT I'VE ALREADY EXPERIENCED BOTH FRONT TURN SIGNALS FAILING IN THE EXACT SAME WAY THIS RECALL DESCRIBES. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED TO MY FRONT RIGHT SIGNAL IN JUNE 2015. I NOTICED MY FRONT LEFT SIGNAL BROKEN TODAY, OCTOBER 12, 2017.
