The defect: CERTAIN MY 2005 AND 2006 U.S. BUS UNIVERSE AND STURDIBUS SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 1, 2005, AND SEPTEMBER 1, 2006. THESE BUSES DO NOT HAVE THE TIRE AND LOADING DECAL WHICH DOES NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS.
The risk: THIS STANDARD SPECIFIES REQUIREMENTS FOR TIRE SELECTION TO PREVENT OVERLOADING.
The remedy: U.S. BUS WILL MAIL LABELS ALONG WITH PLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS TO OWNERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 27, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT U.S. BUS AT 765-939-3984.

The defect: CERTAIN 1998 THROUGH 2006 UNIVERSE AND STURDIBUS SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 1998 AND OCTOBER 23, 2006. THE LABEL EXPLAINING CROSSVIEW MIRROR USE IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE SEATED DRIVER WHICH FAILS TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 111, REARVIEW MIRRORS.
The risk: THE PURPOSE OF THIS STANDARD IS TO REDUCE DEATHS AND INJURIES THAT OCCUR WHEN THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A CLEAR VIEW TO THE REAR.

DUE TO A CLERICAL ERROR, THE CERTIFICATION LABEL HAS A HIGHER REAR GAWR AND GVWR THAN CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM THE CHASSIS MANUFACTURER WHICH FAILS TO COMPLY WITH 49 C.F.R. PART 567.5, REQUIREMENTS FOR MANUFACTURERS OF VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN TWO OR MORE STAGES.
The risk: THE BUSES MAY BECOME OVERLOADED.
The remedy: US BUS HAS NOTIFIED THE CUSTOMER OF THE BUSES AND HAS PROVIDED CORRECT CERTIFICATION LABELS. THE RECALL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 2, 2005. US BUS MAY BE CONTACTED AT 765-939-3984.

The defect: CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 MY STURDIBUS AND UNIVERSE SCHOOL BUSES. THESE BUSES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH IMPROPER/MISSING WELDS ON THE 30" WIDE BARRIER SUPPORT WHICH FAILS TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222, SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION.
The risk: IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL CRASH, THE BARRIER MAY FAIL TO PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE FRONT SEATED PASSENGER, POSSIBY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY.
The remedy: US BUS WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND WILL VISUALLY INSPECT EACH SUSPECT BARRIER FOR MISSING WELDS AND REPAIR THE BARRIERS AS NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 14, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT US BUS AT 845-357-2510.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
