The defect: Shyft Group is recalling certain 2023 Utilimaster Upfit vehicles. The battery cable connections for the electrical harness may be connected incorrectly, causing the circuit protection on the cables to be ineffective.
The risk: Without circuit protection, a short circuit on the negative cable can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Service centers will install the cables and wires correctly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 8, 2023. Owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-237-7806. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 23-02.

Safety recall

Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
