2000 Volvo 740 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 IN MA AT 65 MPH DURING RUSH-HOUR,WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER, THE ETM LIGHT ON MY 2000 VOLVO XC V70 CAME ON AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER. I NARROWLY ESCAPED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN (AGES 9 AND 1). I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AT MAXIMUM 35 MPH TO THE NEAREST EXIT RAMP AND CALL FOR HELP. THE REPAIRS (REPLACED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE) COST $1100. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *NM
