2010 Volvo V70 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Volvo V70, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ON DECEMBER 18, 2010 I ENCOUNTERED A TOTAL LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING CAUSED BY AN ABRADED BRAKE-LINE TO THE RIGHT, FRONT WHEEL OF MY 2010 V70. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AT NORCO GOODYEAR IN MAMMOTH LAKES, CA. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO COMPLETED THE REPAIR FOUND THAT MY CAR WAS MISSING A BRACKET TO CLAMP THE BRAKE LINE AND HOLD IT AWAY FROM THE TIRE: AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE-LINE (HOSE) WAS SLOWLY ABRADED THROUGH FROM WEARING AGAINST THE TIRE AND CABLE-STYLE SNOW-CHAINS. THE SNOW-CHAINS HAD AMPLE CLEARANCE ON THE LEFT FRONT SIDE, WHERE THE BRAKE-LINE HOSE WAS INSTALLED THROUGH A RETAINING BRACKET: NO SUCH BRACKET WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE BRAKE HOSE TOUCHED MY TIRE AND SNOW-CHAIN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR SAFELY; HOWEVER, THE EMERGENCY MAY HAVE BEEN DIRE IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING DOWNHILL. *TR

SAFETY ISSUE WITH TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS). SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR IN TIRE AT HIGH SPEED. PRESSURE MONITORING VALVE HAD DISINTEGRATED AND FALLEN INTO TIRE, WE LEARNED, CAUSING IMMEDIATE FLAT TIRE. CORROSION, WE WERE TOLD. CAR HAD LESS THAN 41,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAD BEEN MAINTAINED AT PRESCRIBED INTERVALS, AND WE WERE NOT WARNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD OCCUR. WE NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE.

AROUND OCTOBER OF 2014 THE WINDSHIELD SEAL ALONG THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD BEGAN LEAKING INTO THE CAR. WATER RUNS DOWN THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, DRIPS ONTO THE DASH BOARD, RUNS BEHIND THE DASHBOARD, AND DRIPS DOWN ONTO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. I'VE BEEN READING SOME VOLVO FORUMS AND APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL VOLVO MODELS OVER SEVERAL YEARS. APPARENTLY THE ADHESIVE USED TO AFFIX THE WINDSHIELD IS FAILING WHICH CAUSES THE LEAKS AND, IN SEVERE CASES, CAUSES THE WINDSHIELD TO LOOSEN FROM THE FRAME. NOT ONLY DO I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL HAZARD, BUT ALSO A SAFETY CONCERN WHICH IS EPIDEMIC TO MANY NEWER VOLVO MODELS. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
