2020 Winnebago View Owner Complaints

Coach door hinge (strut) came loose on a trip from OH to main in 2023. (Wind and rain was penetrating into the coach). We feared that the door would completely blow open. We called a roadside repairman who tightened it but could not repair the strut or make the seal tight. Once returned to Ohio we took it to have it repaired- some adjustments were made however the door continues to loosen with use. Seal and strut were not working as they should. However, due to job transfer, we had to drive the RV across country from CA to OH in 2024. Due to health issues the RV has been in storage until a month ago. We then took our RV to Mesa RV in Davis, CA-Their suggested solution is that we slam the door to get a seal. We still have an ongoing concern that this may be a hazard if the door comes off while driving, as using it causes the door to rattle and loosen more. This same door also had a window recall which is not related. We feel like we are out of options.

The adaptive cruise control will suddenly and unexpectedly stop working while driving on highways... This also disables active brake assist (emergency braking if an object is detected ahead). After a random period of time, the systems will start working again for a certain time until the scenarios repeat. This issue is widely reported on multiple web sites like the following... Plexiglass window on house door to RV separates. This is a known issue to Winnebago which has provided warranty coverage for up to three years, even though the problem typically manifests at or after three years. The window separates from the house door either partially or completely - in the latter case - causing the window to fly off and pose a threat to other drivers. The sudden separation of the window is a safety issue to occupants of the RV since it may not be immediately apparent what the problem is while driving at interstate speeds. There are no warning lights for this window. The problem appears many times on the View/Navion 2020 owners webpage. Winnebago says the window is attached to the door by a company in Italy. Winnebago customer service says they are uncertain what the best fix is other than to try different adhesives or tape the window back assuming it is not missing due to a total separation from the RV. In my case I was traveling out of state on an interstate when a partial separation occurred. Not knowing what happened I immediately pulled over. Duct tape did not hold the window - eventually, Gorilla Tape allowed a temporary fix. Dealer says "repair" will take at least two hours at $200/hour. If plexiglass breaks during repair a new window will need to be purchased in addition to labor.

The contact owns a 2020 Winnebago View on a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds, the front exterior entrance door window became partially detached to from the door. The contact stated that the window was made of a plastic material and was glued to the door. The window was temporarily secured to the door using tape. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.

AWNING OPENED UP PARTIALLY WHILE DRIVING APPROX 1-2" , HEARD A TICKING NOISE AND CHECKED IT OUT WHEN DISCOVERED IT HAD OPENED. ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE IT WITH ELECTRIC SWITCH BUT IT DID NOT RESPOND. I SECURED IT WITH ZIP TIES AND MOVED ON.

I own a 2020 Winnebago View 24D that has a curbside awning system by Carefree that is identical to the awning referenced in the NTHSB Recall Notice 22V-695000. This awning system has been used on all 2020+ Winnebago View models. I have experienced multiple uncommanded partial awning deployments and recently when turning on the generator the awning cycled partially in and out 6 times. Often the generator is used to help cool the coach while driving at highway speeds. If this were to happen it would be a safety issue for us as well as possibly other vehicles on the road.

I own a 2022 Winnebago View that has a curbside awning system installed that is identical to the awning referenced in NTHSB Recall Notice 22V-695. The Winnebago View models since 2020 all use the same awning not just the models listed in your recall. I have experienced 2 uncommanded partial deployments of the awning. I was able to retract both times. The awning occasionally wont extend either but eventually it does with normal use of awning controls. Many other owners are experiencing the same issues as the message boards on social media (Facebook - View/Navion Motorhomes)are full of these reports. I feel that all of these vehicles mentioned above should be included in the NHTSB Recall.

2020 VIEW IS ALL NEW DESIGN INCLUDING THE COACH DOOR WHICH IS THE MAJOR EXIT FOR NORMAL USE AS WELL AS EMERGENCIES. THE DOOR'S LOCKING MECHANISM FAILS IF AN ATTEMPTS IS MADE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE AT THE SAME TIME. THIS RESULTS IN THE DOOR NOT LOCKING OR STAYING CLOSED. THIS HAPPENED TO US ON A TRIP RECENTLY AND WE WERE 350 MILES FROM HOME. WE HAD TO LITERALLY TIE THE DOOR DOWN WITH RATCHETING STRAPS TO KEEP IT FROM FLYING OPEN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE PASSENGER SEATS WITH SEATBELTS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE DOOR IN QUESTION PUTTING PEOPLE AT HIGH RISK OF INJURY SHOULD THE DOOR SUDDENLY FLY OPEN. I DO NOT RECALL THE SPECIFIC DATE SO THE DATE BELOW IS AN APPROXIMATION. I WROTE TO WINNEBAGO ABOUT THIS AND THEIR RESPONSE SO FAR HAS BEEN THAT THEY WILL LOOK INTO WHETHER "ANYTHING CAN BE ALTERED". I HOPE THIS CAN BE LOOKED INTO SINCE THERE ARE PROBABLY HUNDREDS OF UNITS OUT THERE WITH THE OWNERS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE RISK POSED BY A COMPLETELY FAULTY DESIGN. WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE STRAPS HANDY BUT MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE ANY MEANS AVAILABLE TO SECURE THE DOOR WHILE CAMPING IN REMOTE AREAS. I SHOULD POINT OUT THAT TYING THE DOOR DOWN WITH STRAPS ALSO ESSENTIALLY DISABLES THE ONLY MAJOR EXIT (EMERGENCY AND NORMAL) FROM THE COACH.*DT*JB

THE BUNK LADDER WAS STORED DURING TRANSIT IN THE PROVIDED MOUNTING CLIPS BY THE ENTRANCE DOOR AND CAME CRASHING DOWN DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. WE CONTACTED WINNEBAGO AND THEIR SUGGESTION WAS TO PLACE THE LADDER ON THE FLOOR DURING TRANSIT. IF WE DID THIS WE'D HAVE A 9 POUND PROJECTICLE FLYING THROUGH THE COACH IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OR HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY. HAVING A LOOSE LADDER SLIDING AROUND IS NOT AN ADEQATE SAFETY SOLUTION.
