2023 Winnebago View Owner Complaints

Picked up our brand new Winnebago in Boise, ID on [XXX]. While en route to our home in the Seattle area I noticed a loud flapping noise while driving on the highway. I could see the plexiglass window that is part of the RV coach door was coming loose and flapping in the wind. Upon further inspection I could see that the bottom and top portion of the plexiglass was no longer adhered to the door frame. It was only held in place by the middle portion that was still adhered to the door. I put tape on the door to hold the plexiglass in place until I could make more permanent repairs. This part coming completely loose on the highway is a serious hazard to others driving nearby. It could also be disorienting to the driver of the RV and potentially cause distraction that could lead to an accident. I have read on Winnebago forums that this is a common problem with the style of coach door used on this year/model. I would like to file a complaint against Camping World RV at 15855 Smokey Point Blvd, Marysville, WA. 98271. We purchased our Winnebago 2023 View 24J on [XXX] and they failed to disclosed the recall of the awning on our Winnebago. My wife on 8/2/2024 contacted a Winnebago Customer Care Representative. A recall was posted and sent out to dealerships on the awning in early to mid-April 2024. While traveling the Winnebago awning and stairs both were sticking (not functioning correctly). They said items noted would be fixed before delivery date. We had to wait a week before we picked up our Winnebago. They showed us the awning and stairs worked. No one told us about the recall on the awning. Two weeks late we left town on a month long vacation. While traveling we stop for fuel the stairs kept sticking. Arrived at our first destination deployed the awning and it did not deploy, and the steps stop working. Plus I fell out of the door injuring myself. (I have photos of injury). They should have never sold us the unit in the first place knowing it’s on a recall list. If we would have known of the recall we would never have purchased this unit. My wife and I would like to exchange or move up to a better unit. When you buy new nothing should be wrong with it. We’ve gone almost two months without the motorhome. They prefer we take it home and wait, but no telling how long the wait would be. Camping World wants to be let off the hook for all the inconvenience and selling a motorhome with a recall. The Winnebago 2023 View 24J motorhome sits at the dealership Camping World. In summary if we had known about the recall we would have selected something different or upgraded to a bigger model we were considering. We’ve been truly inconvenienced and our summer plans have been ruined. I would appreciate being contacted in the near future to discuss a possible resolution to this experience. Traveling East on the PA Turnpike at approx. 7:00 PM traveling at 68/70MPH we heard a sudden noise that sounded like a rear wheel rim had come off or a tire blow out. A passing car/truck motioned on the drivers side pointing to the back of the RV. We had to slow down immediately and try to find enough room to pull over on the shoulder which was difficult due to the 8 ft width of the RV and the 26 ft length of the RV where it would be safe. Walking around to determine what the problem was, my husband looked under the back of the RV and found that the entire under mount spare tire was hanging down under the RV, half barely attached and the other half on the ground. There was no warning prior to this occurring. My husband had to crawl under the back of the RV to remove the one remaining screw that held the spare tire cage to the underbody of the RV and the heavy fully inflated spare tire. At the time traffic was speeding by at 70 plus MPH. It was dangerous to even be pulled over on the shoulder with the RV. We carefully loaded through the RV side door the under mount steel bracket and the heavy spare tire into the RV which was difficult. Someone had to make sure that the RV interior was not damaged while driving the 20 remaining miles home. The RV had two adults and 3 Golden Retrievers in it at the time of the equipment failure. The RV was brand new purchased in August 2023 by a Winnebago Dealer in Forest City, Iowa and had approx. 2500 miles on it. At the present time we have not contacted the dealer where the RV was purchased or contacted Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa. If we had not heard the noise, the potential for a devastating outcome could have happened if the entire tire mount and tire had come loose, possibly causing an accident. We were physically and emotionally shaken after this incident.

Backup camera system inoperable. Results in inability to see when backing up vehicle. Dealer diagnostic procedures pointed to defective camera. Display screen has message "System Inoperable," otherwise blank. Camera was replaced but did not solve the problem. Not offered any other remedy. Recall 21V411addressed this problem in 2020 and 2021 Mercedes (this chassis is 2021). Called MB support several times trying to get them to extend recall to my unit, since it's just a software update -- can't hurt for them to try. Representative said each time they would elevate my complaint to a higher level, but nothing ever happens.

As of this date 9/28/22 there will be a forthcoming recall on several year models of the Winnebago View RV due to the awning deploying automatically while driving or when parked causing a serious safety issue. The latest information is that a solution has not yet been found and a recall will be issued in November. It appears that Winnebago RV recall may apply only to model year 2022, yet there has been no change in the design of the awning from 2019 through the present. All RV's with this awning design should be included in this recall !
