What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 Yamaha Super Tenere, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

YAMAHA SUPER TENERE, 2013, ~ 7K MILES, REAR BRAKE LOSING PRESSURE - NOT WORKING AT ALL; ABS LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. NEARLY KILLED MYSELF, HAVING TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP ON A DUAL CARRIAGE WAY, WHEN I FIRST FOUND OUT...! YAMAHA DEALER PERFORMED ALL DIAGNOSTIC STEPS - REPLACED CALIPER SEAL KIT, REBUILT MASTER CYLINDER ETC AT MASSIVE COST. AT FIRST, DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED THAT IT WASN'T THE ABS PUMP BUT, HAVING EXCLUDED EVERYTHING ELSE, DEALER SAYS IT CAN ONLY BE ABS... NEW ABS PUMP 1700. LOOKING ONLINE, FOR EXAMPLE ON THE SUPER TENERE FORUM, IT APPEARS THIS IS QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SUPER TENERE - WITH QUITE A FEW DEVOTED YAMAHA RIDERS LIKE ME TEARING THEIR HAIR OUT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD REPAIRING THEIR BIKES. YAMAHA UK JUST SAYS THAT THIS IS THE RESULTS OF BIKES NOT BEING MAINTAINED WELL ENOUGH - E.G BRAKE FLUID NOT BEING REPLACED. MY BIKE WAS SERVICED ACCORDING TO THE SCHEDULE THOUGH. EVEN IF IT REALLY IS THAT ESSENTIAL FOR BRAKE FLUID TO BE REPLACED REGULARLY TO PREVENT THIS THEN THIS SHOULD BE POINTED OUT A BIT MORE CLEARLY TO OWNERS - WHO WILL NORMALLY JUST LET DEALERS/LOCAL SERVICE STATIONS GET ON WITH SERVICING THE BIKE AND THEN PRESUME EVERYTHING NECESSARY IS BEING DONE. WHAT MORE CAN THEY DO? SO I NOW HAVE A BIKE THAT, WHEN IT IS FIXED, IS WORTH AROUND 6.5K WHICH FIRST NEEDS > 2K SPENDING ON IT. YAMAHA UK SAYS IT MAY ONLY BE WILLING TO CHIP IN ('A LOW PERCENTAGE CONTRIBUTION') IF MY DEALER CAN PERSUADE THEM THAT I AM A VALUED-ENOUGH YAMAHA CUSTOMER. SORRY YAMAHA, BUT THIS REALLY IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A MANUFACTURING COMPANY PRIDING THEMSELVES ON BUILDING STUFF THAT'S 'MADE TO LAST'! CAN I POINT OUT THAT THIS IS A BIKE THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE BUILT TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD? AND THAT YOU SELLING THESE (NEW) FOR 12-13K?!
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
