I AM GETTING A LOUD CLACKING AND WHINE FROM THE TRANSMISSION IN 3RD GEAR. THIS IS THE ONLY GEAR THAT IS DOING IT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING APART! I AM AFRAID TO RIDE IT VERY FAR BECAUSE IT MIGHT BRAKE AND LOCK UP MY DRIVE TRAIN WHEN I AM AT SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE AND IT CAUSE ME TO CRASH! THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM GOING THROUGH THE GEARS, 1ST TO 2ND THEN TO 3RD AND ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. IF I GO ON TO 4TH GEAR IT STOPS AND THE SAME WITH 5TH GEAR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF THIS GEAR BREAKS WHILE I AM RIDING, TO BE PREPARED FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO COMPLETELY LOCK UP AND IT MOST LIKELY WILL PUT ME DOWN AND MAKE ME CRASH. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THERE IS ONLY 40K ON THIS BIKE AND NO REASON THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE GOING OUT. I HAVE BEEN RIDING MOTORCYCLES FOR 50YRS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM!

WHILE RIDING AT LOW RPM'S IN 3RD GEAR A LOUD "CLACKING" IS PRESENT. I CONTACTED MY YAMAHA DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE IS A "REPLACEMENT" 3RD GEAR LISTED FOR THAT MODEL AND YEAR, HOWEVER, YAMAHA IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE KNOWN DEFECT WHICH COULD RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF POWER. *TR

I BEGAN TO NOTICE A WHINING FROM THE TRANSMISSION IN THIRD GEAR. MINOR AT FIRST BUT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER OVER THE LAST MONTH. LOOKED THE PROBLEM UP ON SEVERAL YAMAHA ROADLINER / STRATOLINER FORUMS AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME AND WORSE PROBLEMS INCLUDING LOOSING THIRD GEAR. I HAVE READ THAT SOME HAVE TRIED TO GET YAMAHA TO RECALL THESE BUT NO RECALL TO DATE AS OF YET. I WILL HAVE TO STOP RIDING MY BIKE AS I DON'T WANT TO LOOSE THIRD OUT ON A TRIP. I HAVE ALSO RED THAT YAMAHA HAS COME UP WITH A REPLACEMENT GEAR THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM BUT AS OF NOW BIG MONEY IS REQUIRED TO REPAIR THIS DESIGN FLAW. *TR

I WAS DOWNSHIFTING AND HEARD A REALLY LOAD NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE NOISE IS PREVALENT IN 3 RD GEAR ONLY WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. IT IS WORSE AS IT CAN BE HEARD WHEN ACCELERATING NOW. ONLY 3RD GEAR IS EFFECTED. I CANNOT USE 3RD GEAR AT ALL AT THIS TIME. THE NOISE CAN BE HEARD WHEN RIDING THE BIKE OR STANDING NEAR WHEN DRIVING BY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 YAMAHA XV19 MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOAD NOISE WHILE IN THIRD GEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL OR HAVE A DEFECT BUT HE WAS CONCERNED THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.

MY 2006 YAMAHA STRATOLINER XV1900 STALLS WHEN I PULL THE CLUTCH COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I FIRST GOT MY BIKE. IT HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE BIKE IS HOT OR COLD. I CALLED YAMAHA TO COMPLAIN AS IT STALLED WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND CAUSING AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION FOR ME AND MY PASSENGER. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF A PROBLEM, YET WHEN I TOOK THE BIKE TO THE DEALER, THERE WAS A TECH BULLETIN DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM AND SPECULATING ON POSSIBLE RESOLUTIONS. MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE. MANY SPECULATE THAT IT IS A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH SWITCH AND THE METHOD BY WHICH THE CLUTCH SWITCH INTERACTS WITH THE ECU. *TR
