2006 Yamaha XV1900 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Yamaha XV1900, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

While shifting into and out of 3rd gear it began to clunk and now is almost useless. Yamaha is aware that they had a defective gears and replaced the gears with a new kit part number. They refuse to replace the parts and do the repair at their cost well knowing it is a manufacturing defect and can cause serious damage to the motor and transmission This motorcycle only has 13000 miles and the transmission is to the point of being dangerous to ride, if even ridable at all. Their are so many reports of this same issue, Yamaha should recall these motorcycles and repair this manufacturing defect their cost before someone gets killed.

I WAS RIDING HOME FROM COLLEGE AND I DOWN SHIFTED FROM 4TH GEAR TO THIRD AND HEARD A NOISE AND THE BIKE STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED BACK UP AGAIN HOWEVER IF I SHIFT INTO THIRD IT MAKES A HORRIBLE TAPPING NOISE. SO, I HAVE BEEN RIDING THE BIKE WITHOUT USING 3RD GEAR. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN WHO LIVES ON VERY LITTLE VET BENEFITS WHICH DO NOT ALLOW FOR ME TO PAY FOR A TOP END REBUILD WHICH IS REQUIRED TO CHANGE THE GEAR. NOR CAN I PAY FOR YAMAHAS NEW THIRD GEAR ( WHICH IS NOT THE SAME PART OR PART # THAT THE BIKE WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH ) THAT THEY CAME UP WITH TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

Motorcycle just stops/ shuts off for no reason. Have stalled at red lights and on highway. Then very hard to start. Have spent thousands at dealer to fix, still not fixed.

ALMOST DIED TODAY. MY BIKE STALLED FOR THE 17TH TIME AND AS I STALLED, I STOPPED HARD BECAUSE OF THE JOLT OF THE STALL AND MY BAD BACK COULDN'T HANDLE THE WEIGHT BEING OFF BALANCE SO I HAD TO LAY THE BIKE DOWN. AS I WAS FALLING TO THE GROUND, ANOTHER CAR LOCKED UP HER BRAKES TO AVOID KILLING ME IN THE LANE TO THE LEFT. THE BIKE ROUTINELY STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND I AM HOPING THE YAMAHA CORP WILL DO THE HONORABLE THING AND FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED. I REFUSE TO RIDE ANYMORE AND WILL NOT SELL THE DEATH TRAP TO ANYONE ELSE. SO, PLEASE RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM AS I REALLY LIKE MY BIKE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DIE ON IT. IT IS UNSAFE TO STALL AT ALL LET ALONE RANDOMLY 4 OUT OF 10 TIMES WHEN THE BIKE GETS HOT.

WHEN I TURNED ON THE KEY MY SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS CYCLES FROM ZERO TO MAXIMUM BACK TO ZERO ONE TIME. PERIODICALLY, ONE OF MY INDICATORS (USUALLY THE SPEEDOMETER) DOES NOT CYCLE AND THEN DOES NOT WORK DURING THE VEHICLE OPERATION. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. I REMOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO CHECK THE WIRING FOR SHORTS AND DID NOT READILY DETECT ANY THOUGH I DID NOTICE THE WIRING HARNESS IS VERY TIGHT JUST IN FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK -- I'M SURE VIBRATION FROM VEHICLE OPERATION PUTS STRESS ON THOSE CONNECTORS. NOTE: IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ABOVE I HAVE NOTICED PERIODIC FLICKERING OF MY INSTRUMENT LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHT -- I AM CONCERNED ONE OF THESE DAYS MY HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING AT NIGHT. IT HAPPENED TO ME ON A PREVIOUS YAMAHA ROADSTAR AND THAT WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
