2007 Yamaha XVS11 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

HELLO, I AM WRITING IN REGARDS TO THE 2007 YAMAHA VSTAR 1100 CUSTOM. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE MID SHAFT BREAKS LEAVING THE NUT TO CHAOTICALLY SHAKE AROUND UNTIL CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO SEIZE. THERE ARE TESTIMONIES ONLINE HUNDREDS OF PLACES. THEY WILL NOT OFFER A RECALL. THEY ARE QUITE SUSPECT CONSIDERING THAT THE STARTER CLUTCH ON THIS MODEL OFTEN MALFUNCTIONS (WHICH I JUST HAD TO REPLACE), A JOB COSTING WELL OVER A GRAND, AND THEY HAVE NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM EITHER. THE MID SHAFT BREAKAGE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO THE RIDER, COULD BE FATAL, YET YAMAHA TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY. I AM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FROM THEM FOR $4000. THIS INCLUDES $1000 FOR THE FAULTY STARTER CLUTCH AND $3000 FOR THE BROKEN MID SHAFT. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
