What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Yamaha XVS65, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
Reports by component
Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category
- Powertrain (other)250.0%
- Other / unspecified125.0%
- Transmission125.0%
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Powertrain (other)

From owner reports, verbatim
THE REAR WHEEL OF THE MOTORCYCLE UNEXPECTEDLY LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. I LOST CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE AND HIT THE CURB. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON A BUSY INTERSTATE, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE REASON THE WHEEL LOCKED UP WAS BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER USED THE WRONG BEARING ON THE DIFFERENTIAL PINION GEAR. THE BEARING WAS NOT DESIGNED TO HANDLE THE THRUST IN THIS TYPE OF APPLICATION. WHEN I PURCHASED THE REPLACEMENT BEARING FROM THE YAMAHA DEALER, IT WAS A BEARING DESIGNED TO HANDLE THE THRUST OF THE PINION GEAR. YAMAHA NEEDS TO INITIATE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED!!
