What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Yamaha Zuma 125, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
IN HOT WEATHER (GREATER THAT 90 DEGREES) ENGINE STALLS AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED UNTIL ENGINE COOLS FOR AN HOUR. STALLED AT RED LIGHT IN FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. NEEDED TO PUSH TO SIDE OF ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS. STALLED AGAIN NEXT DAY SAME SITUATION. RUNS FINE AT NIGHT WHEN COOL. *TR
BEING THAT THERE HAS BEEN ISSUES AND COMPLAINTS FILED WITH THE 2009 YAMAHA ZUMA 125CC FUEL PUMPS, THE PROBLEM IS THE FUEL PUMPS ARE DEFECTIVE AND CAUSES A HAZARD IN TRAFFIC ,STALLING OF THE SCOOTER WHILE DRIVING .THIS CREATES A PROBLEM AT HI SPEEDS AND ALSO HAPPENS WHEN YOU SHUT THE BIKE DOWN AFTER A RIDE. AFTER THIS HAPPENS THE FUEL PUMP WILL NOT PUMP FUEL TO RE START THE BIKE,WHICH LEAVE THE DRIVER STRANDED ,THE BIKE WILL RESTART ,AFTER THE BIKE HAS COOLED DOWN FOR 3 TO 4 HRS. AND SOMETIMES LONGER HEAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THE FAULTY PUMP TO FAIL WHEN DRIVING . BAD DESIGN . YAMAHA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE ,BUT NO RECALLS . WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET A MANDATORY RECALL ON ALL 2009 125CC SCOOTERS, I WOULD HATE FOR SOMEONE TO RUN INTO ME BECAUSE OF MY BIKE STALLING IN TRAFFIC. IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. ON 12/21/12 I WAS DRIVING DOWN US41 AT 50MPH. WHEN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC RUSH HOUR ,TRAFFIC ALL AROUND ME .AT THIS POINT MY BIKES FUEL PUMP CUTS OUT ,THEN THE SCOOTER SLOWED DOWN REAL QUICK,ALMOST LIKE PUTTING ON THE BRAKES . NOW BEING IN THE LEFT LANE I HAVE NOWHERE TO GO. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY THE CAR THAT WAS IN THE SAME LANE AS I WAS ,GOOD THING HE WAS PAYING ATTENTION . *TR
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN HOT WEATHER {75 +}, ZUMA WOULD NOT START. PUT SCOOTER IN SHADE, OR COOL LOCATION FOR 15 MINUTES OR MORE, AND WOULD RESTART. NOTICED WHEN WOULD NOT START, THE FUEL PUMP COULD NOT BE HEARD AS NORMAL. ON ONE OCCASION, HAD TO HOSE DOWN WITH COLD WATER TO GET TO START. CALLED DEALER SERVICE, WAS TOLD THEY DIDNOT KNOW OF ANY PROBLEMS. THEY DID SAY THEY HAD A ZUMA DROPPED OFF THAT DAY WITH A SIMILAR CONCERN. *TR
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
