The defect: Zero Motorcycle Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain 2021 SR, S, DSR, DS, FX, and FXS motorcycles. The DC-DC converter has an insufficient power output margin to operate the anti-lock braking system (ABS), instruments, lights, indicators, and any accessories that are connected to the accessory outlet at once.
The risk: The DC-DC converter can shut off when its power capacity is exceeded, shutting off the ABS, instruments, and lights, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Zero will notify owners, and dealers will replace the DC-DC converter, free of charge. The recall began October 26, 2020. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall is SV-ZMC-021-019.

CYPHER III OTA FIRMWARE RELEASE Coming Soon The latest firmware release (MBB V45, BMU V21, BMS V27) for 2020+ Cypher III motorcycles will be available Over The Air to customers on June 17. This release includes: Bug fixes Security improvements General system stability enhancements While customers may simply see an update notification, dealers should be aware that this release marks an important transition toward the Tuner diagnostic tool. For motorcycles running the latest Cypher III firmware, Tuner will become the primary tool for many service and maintenance functions moving forward. If your dealership hasn't explored Tuner yet, now is the perfect time to get started.

A firmware update will be released tomorrow June 29 at 7am PT for MY17-MY23 Zero Motorcycles that operate on the Cypher II platform.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
