The defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2021-2024 JEMS S and JEMS SE vehicles. Inadequate clearance between the A/C hoses and the engine exhaust manifold may result in the hoses overheating.
The risk: A/C hoses that overheat can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Altec will install a remedy kit to secure the hose routing farther away from the exhaust manifold, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 23, 2024. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3166.

Altec has learned that certain units built with a Jobsite Energy Management System (JEMS) S/SE/LE from October 2020 to May 17, 2023, may fail to charge or operate properly, particularly when the battery is cold. Altec has developed a firmware update to resolve this issue.

Altec has learned that when the coolant-style oil heater on certain AH75B/85B100B aerial devices built from April 2021 to August 2022 is active, the operator has to turn off the engine in order to disengage the power take-off (PTO). Replacement of a wiring harness in the pedestal is required to resolve this issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT

Altec used telematics data to identify JEMS in the field with batteries approaching critical discharge. After the min cell voltage becomes less than 3000mV the battery is no longer rechargeable in the field. To avoid costly battery replacement and decrease customer downtime, a letter describing the Battery Recovery Procedure from the manual was sent to the affected customers.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT

Altec has learned that the engine on certain AT35/37/40G and AT37/41/48 ME/PE aerial devices built from August 2020 to August 2021 on Ford F-450/F550/F-600 gas engine chassis equipped with a JEMS S/SE hybrid system could not enter idle mitigation system (IMS) engine shut down properly when the Jobsite Energy Management System (JEMS) is actuated at a cold ambient temperature with a cold engine block. When shutdown is attempted, the engine will stutter but will remain running. If this happens five times in a row, it will cause the JEMS service light to turn on and the JEMS to become inactive. To resolve this issue, the base idle setting for IMS shutdown must be updated by Altec.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The system firmware on the Altec Jobsite Energy Management System (JEMS) S/SE/LE built from 2020 to 2021 is being updated to improve the performance of the telematics system. This update does not affect the operation of the JEMS system. This update can be completed at the next service interval using the AXIS Service Tool. This update is covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and must be performed by Altec.
