The defect: Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 DC1317 wood chippers manufactured September 1, 2011, to July 14, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the fasteners that attach the chipper cutting disc bearing to the unit may fail and the chipper disc may detach.
The risk: If the disc detaches within the housing, there is an increased risk of injury to the operator or those nearby.
The remedy: Altec has notified owners, and dealers will replace the disc bearing mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began on October 29, 2014. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 604.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

PUN 2019A notified unit owners that Altec Industries, Inc. has developed a product improvement which relates to certain chippers equipped with Kubota WG3800 Gas Engines. Some customers have reported that the affected engines shut down when first starting in cold weather conditions below +5 degrees Fahrenheit. Investigation found that in cold weather the engine did not build up enough oil pressure to actuate a low pressure oil switch shutting off the engine. The engine supplier has changed the programming on the new engines to allow the engine to properly build up oil pressure allowing it to continue running in cold conditions. They have developed a kit to install an electronic timer on the engine allowing the oil pressure to build up on units in the field. Customers can install this kit on units operating in cold conditions.
