2014 American Coach American Revolution Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF VARIOUS SAFETY RELATED DEFECTS THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE TYPICAL MOVING WEIGHT OF THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCESS OF 55,000 LBS. 1) BELTED SEATS ARE INAPPROPRIATELY SECURED. INSTEAD OF BEING PROPERLY BOLTED DOWN, THEY ARE HELD IN PLACE BY TWO SMALL WOOD SCREWS. HTTP://S22.POSTIMG.ORG/5JKKFPY4X/SEATSCREWS.JPG 2) THE CHASSIS COMES IN 3 PARTS. THE FRONT STRUCTURE CONTAINS THE STEERING, WHICH IS BOLTED TO A CENTER STRUCTURE KNOWN AS THE LIBERTY CHASSIS. THE CENTER STRUCTURE IS BOLTED TO A REAR FREIGHTLINER STRUCTURE THAT HAS THE ENGINE. THE FOLLOWING VIDEO IS OF BOLTS THAT CONNECT THE MIDDLE CHASSIS STRUCTURE TO THE REAR CHASSIS STRUCTURE. THEY ARE NOT EVEN FINGER TIGHT: HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=4T7WRZKSF7A 3) THERE ARE NUMEROUS STRUCTURAL DEFECTS IN THE OVERALL STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THERE IS A LARGE TV ABOVE THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE STRUCTURE HOLDING THE TV HAS SERIOUS WELDING AND WORKMANSHIP DEFECTS. IF THE TV FELL, IT COULD HIT THE DRIVER IN THE HEAD RESULTING IN A CRASH. 4) MANY STRUCTURAL AND WELDING DEFECTS THAT COULD RESULT IN STRUCTURAL FAILURE AND A CRASH: VEHICLE STRUCTURE HELD TOGETHER WITH TACK WELDS: HTTP://S28.POSTIMG.ORG/LNDEJ6UVX/TACK_WELDED.JPG VEHICLE STRUCTURE WHERE ONLY ONE SIDE OF ALUMINUM TUBING HAS A WELD AND THERE IS A LARGE GAP. WELD IS ALSO OF VERY POOR QUALITY. HTTP://S18.POSTIMG.ORG/OTE7VX6RT/WELD_GAP.JPG VEHICLE STRUCTURE MISSING WELDS AND GAPS: HTTP://S22.POSTIMG.ORG/65E4PKIKX/MISSING_WELDS.JPG CRACKED WELDS: HTTP://S10.POSTIMG.ORG/J777P67LL/CRACKED_WELD.JPG 5) NUMEROUS CABINETS AND FIXTURES. SOME ABOVE THE DRIVERS HEAD. MUCH OF THE WOOD IS CRACKED WHICH COULD RESULT IN CABINETS COMING LOOSE AND RESULTING IN A CRASH: HTTP://S11.POSTIMG.ORG/R71SW65KJ/BUSTED_WOOD02.JPG OUT OF SPACE. Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
