Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

2019 Audi Q5 had the hardware fail which controls the rear view camera (controls other functions too) It's known as the MMI and the replaced part says "MIB2 Main-Unit" on the housing. I have the old part that the dealer replaced in my possession. Dealer confirmed the part was broken and would require replacement. not having a rear camera impacts safety in parking lots, backing in to streets etc, as well as increased risk of backing off the road esp in tight settings. there was no initial warning - it 100% stopped working then would give some warnings or random short term use the past 3 months while scheduling replacement. Completely unreliable for day to day safety, as we back on to a busy road multiple times per day.

am writing to report a very concerning safety issue with my 2019 Audi Q5 and to request guidance on whether this may be covered under warranty or if my vehicle is experiencing a malfunction. On Saturday, while driving to an appointment, there was a bicyclist in the bike lane. Suddenly, the “Audi Presence” warning flashed red on my dashboard and the vehicle braked very hard on its own. I was not close to hitting the bicyclist and there was no imminent collision risk. The sudden braking was extremely frightening and could have caused an accident if a car had been behind me. It took quite a while for me to calm down and get my breathing back to normal after the incident. Then this morning, I received a dashboard warning that said: “Drive system: malfunction! Please contact service.” I am very concerned that this may be a malfunction of the automatic emergency braking or driver assistance system, especially after the unexpected hard braking incident. This feels like a serious safety issue. I am very concerned and very unhappy, as this situation felt dangerous and could have resulted in an accident.

I was coming to a stop. No objects were in front of me. At about 5mph I was violently thrown forward as the car applied full braking. I do not recall whether I was braking, coasting. This happened a second time as we were making a slow speed turn in an intersection, applying light acceleration. I have not taken the car to the dealership. There were no accidents in both cases. I did go into the vehicle settings and turned the AES off. There have been no further incidents.

My vehicle does a few things that are dangerous. Number 1 the emergency brake went on automatically when I was driving the parkway in New Jersey telling me to watch my surroundings. I was driving late in the evening and no cars were in my immediate distance. Another issue, the emergency warning light just came on my dash telling me my light above my license plate was faulty and I was almost rear ended by the vehicle behind me. My tail lights just stopped working out of no where. Also, when I am backing into a parking space the brakes will automatically slam on when there is no need.

I have a 2019 Audi Q5 with under 24k miles over the past 4 years of new vehicle ownership. There have been 5+ instances where I am driving under normal conditions and suddenly the vehicle jerks abruptly, slows down to half the original speed (from 65 mph on freeway to 30 mph), gear shifting becomes irregular and the following indicators appear on the dashboard: 1) check engine light, 2) vehicle repair required 3) warning icon w/ triangle around and exclamation point. "Drive system malfunction" note appears on screen. Ignition cycling may temporarily remove the warning indicator lights, however the same exact issue happens once I'm back on the road - sometimes only driving at 20 mph through residential streets. I have taken the vehicle into Audi service centers for immediate repair after each incident, only to have this become a recurring issue. This is an extremely dangerous situation where a vehicle could unexpectedly reduce speeds and potentially result in traffic accidents. I have found many internet posts on this same exact issue which are major concerns of Audi owners.

THIS VEHICLE HAS ACTIVE LANE ASSIST. THERE IS A CONTROL THAT SENDS AN ALARM TO PREVENT DRIVERS FROM ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE WITHOUT HANDS ON THE WHEEL. THIS CAR IS GENERATING FREQUENT FALSE ALERTS (EG DRIVING WITH HANDS ON THE WHEEL). IT IS MOST COMMON ON STRAIGHT ROADS, BUT CAN HAPPEN EVERY FEW MINUTES. THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND RESULTS IN ME TURNING OFF THE LANE ASSIST. WHAT IS DESIGNED AS A SAFETY MECHANISM IS ACTUALLY INCREASING RISK AS THE FEATURE IS UNUSEABLE. THE DEALER AND CORPORATE CUSTOMER SUPPORT SAY THE CAR IS FUNCTIONING TO DESIGN AND WILL NOT TAKE ANY ACTION. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THIS HAPPENS ON ALL PRESTIGE MODEL Q5'S BUT NOT ON OTHER MODELS, CONFIRMING TO ME THAT THIS IS DEFECTIVE IN EITHER IMPLEMENTATION AND OR DESIGN. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONSIDER STARTING AN INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL.

UNINTENDED DECELERATION. I AM A CANADIAN WHO WAS DRIVING IN NEW YORK STATE. I HAVE A NEW 2019 AUDI Q5 TECHNIK. WHILE USING ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) SET AT 75 MPH IN THE PASSING LANE ON SATURDAY AUGUST 31, 2019, THE AUDI'S TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION SYSTEM RESPONDED TO A 55 MPH SIGN SOMEWHERE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT CHANGED THE ACC SETTING FROM 75 TO 55 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES HARD. I HAD TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO REGAIN CONTROL AND ACCELERATE TO AVOID A REAR-END COLLISION. THE AUDI MANUAL STATES ON PAGE 95 THAT "TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION DOES NOT ADAPT YOUR VEHICLE'S SPEED TO MATCH THE SPEED LIMIT!" HOWEVER, ON PAGE 101 THE MANUAL DESCRIBES A PREDICTIVE EFFICIENCY ASSIST SYSTEM WHICH WHEN SWITCHED ON WILL BEHAVE AS I HAVE DESCRIBED. THIS SETTING IS FOUND WITHIN THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM. IT WAS NOT POINTED OUT TO ME BY THE SELLING DEALER AND HAD BEEN APPARENTLY BEEN SWITCHED ON WHEN I TOOK POSSESSION OF THE NEW VEHICLE. THIS FEATURE IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE SET TO OFF BY DEFAULT. I WILL NEVER TURN IT ON! THERE WERE A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS ON MY DRIVE THAT DAY WHEN OTHER VEHICLES WERE FOLLOWING ME DANGEROUSLY CLOSELY AND THIS SUDDEN DECELERATION WOULD HAVE CAUSED A REAR-END COLLISION AT HIGHWAY SPEED.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
