What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 BMW 435I, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2014 BMW 435I. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off, the battery discharged abnormally. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the water pump had remained running unexpectedly when the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 24V608000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
ACCELERATED CAR AFTER STOP SIGN. HEARD A LOUD POP AND LOSS OF POWER. LOOKED UNDER HOOD AND FOUND THE CHARGE PIPE PLASTIC BUSTED AND OFF THE THROTTLE BODY.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2014 BMW 435I. The contact stated that while driving uphill at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer. The dealer determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced and the computer needed to be reprogrammed. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V189000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 96,911.
MY 2014 BMW 435XI STALLS ON WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. THE SAME ISSUE WAS REPORTED ON NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V189000 FOR MY VEHICLE MODEL AND YEAR. WHEN I INPUT MY VIN FOR THE RECALL, THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE ISN'T SHOWN. FOR THIS REASON, BWM WILL NOT PAY TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. MY GIRLFRIEND HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON HER 2013 BMW 328I AND BMW REPLACED HER FUEL PUMP AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. I BELIEVE THE CLEAN POINT ESTABLISHED BY BMW FOR THIS FUEL PUMP ISSUE WASN'T CORRECT OR BAD PARTS WERE STILL IN VEHICLES OUTSIDE OF THE CLEAN POINT. MY CAR HAS STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. IT'S NOT SAFE BECAUSE THE TRAFFIC AROUND ME HAS TO AVOID MY CAR UNTIL I REACH THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO STOP. I USUALLY JUST TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES, RESTART AND THE CAR DRIVES NORMAL. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DUE WITH THE FUEL LEVEL. THE CAR ONLY STALLS WHEN THE FUEL LEVEL IS AT OR BELOW 1/4 TANK. CURRENTLY, I KEEP MY CAR ABOVE HALF A TANK TO AVOID THE STALLING ISSUE. MY FEAR IS THE ISSUE WILL HAPPEN REGARDLESS OF THE FUEL LEVEL. I'M SENDING THIS LETTER BECAUSE LAST WEEK I WAS RUNNING LATE AND DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO FILL UP THE TANK AND MY CAR STALLED AT 1/4 TANK ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS ALMOST IN A ACCIDENT. PLEASE HELP!!!

ON TWO OCCASIONS, JANUARY 2015 AND MAY 2015 MY 435I STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER. THE FIRST TIME I WAS CROSSING A VERY BUSY 3 LANE NORTHBOUND ROAD TO GET TO THE LEFT TURN LANE WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE CAR JUST STOPPED. THEY WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT HIT AS I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRAKE, TO INDICATE TO DRIVERS BEHIND ME THAT I WAS SLOWING DOWN. THE LIGHTS, CHASSIS STABILIZATION AND DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION CAME ON THE DASH. TWO PRETTY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, A POLICE OFFICER GOT THE CAR STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT ANOTHER MILE BEFORE AGAIN IT JUST STOPPED. WARNINGS ABOUT THE FUEL INJECTION AND ENGINE OVERHEAT CAME ON IN ADDITION TO DRIVETRAIN AND CHASSIS STABILIZATION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER WHOSAID THEY NEEDED TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. AFTER THIS I DROVE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER 3 MONTHS AND 2,000 MILES WHEN IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I BOARDED A CAR FERRY AFTER DRIVING 100 MILES ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. WHEN I STATED THE CAR TODISEMBARK, IT SHUT DOWN AND ALL 4 WARNINGS ALL CAME UP AT ONCE. I GOT IT STARTED AND GOT OFF THE FERRY WHEN IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. ALL I COULD THINK OF WAS HOW LUCKY I WAS IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE WAS DURING AT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. AGAIN TOWED TO BMW WHO TOLD ME AGAIN THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND A FAN CHANGED. I DON'T BELIEVE THEM. THERE ARE RECALLS ON CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS FOR FAULTY PLATING ON THE FUEL PUMP. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. I AM AFRAID OF IT STOPPING NOT ONLY ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY BUT ANY ROADWAY AND BEING HIT FROM BEHIND AS THERE IS NO BRAKING TO INDICATE TO DRIVERS BEHIND YOU THAT YOU ARE STOPPING. ONCE IT SHUTS DOWN YOU CAN'T START IT. SO YOU ARE STUCK WHEREVER YOU ARE. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

WITH ONLY 14,500 MILES THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE SCORED AND STOP DISTANCE HAS INCREASED SUBSTANTIALLY. BRAKES ALSO VERY NOISY. DEALER HAS TOLD ME BECAUSE OF HIGH CARBON STEEL IN THE ROTORS, THEY RUST EASILY AND ARE PRONE TO SCORING IF NOT DRIVEN EVERY DAY.
