I BACKED UP MY CAR IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK THE DRIVER DOOR AIRBAG DEPLOYED KNOCKING ME OVER , BRUISING MY LEFT ARM AND I STILL HAVE RINGING IN MY EARS.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING DURING WET CONDITIONS, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD SUDDENLY SHIFT FROM "DRIVE" TO "S" WITHOUT ANY OPERATOR INTERVENTION. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE CAR ABRUPTLY SLOWED TO ABOUT 25 MPH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND THAT SPEED. I WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THIS SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED CHANGE IN GEAR SELECTION WOULD TAKE PLACE WITHOUT ANY OPERATOR INTERVENTION WHICH RESULTED IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT VISTA BMW IN COCONUT CREEK, FL ON 9/07/05 AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH AND THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $583.25. *JB
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING TO AN INTERSECTION, THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL POWER, DEALER THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY, BUT VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN, IT WAS THE OXYGEN SENSOR THAT CAUSED THE STALLING.*AK CONSUMER STATES THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT VEHICLE STALLED, ALSO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT THERE WAS A THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, AS A RESULT OF PROBLEM WITH DRIVESHAFT.*JB

AIR BAGS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
For the above-referenced vehicles with driver?s side airbag modules, BMW of North America, LLC (?BMW NA?) will provide a Customer Support Program as outlined in the Takata Settlement Customer Support Program Overview attachment. This ?component-specific? customer support program applies only if there is a defect in materials or workmanship of the Takata driver?s side airbag module in a listed vehicle.
AIR BAGS
In an effort to improve the completion rate on Takata air bag recall affected vehicles; BMW NA has expanded the BMW Ultimate Rewards platform to include a new Recall Support page. This page will allow IRFs to check their customers VINs for open Takata recalls; and get rewarded for helping us with completing repairs.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
