Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 BMW 750IL, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
CLOUDING OF LAMINATE LAYER BETWEEN PANES OF DOUBLE-PAINED SECURITY DOOR GLASS REDUCES VISIBILITY AND CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES. THE CAR WITH THIS $2600 OEM OPTION SUFFERS FROM DELAMINATION OF THE WINDOWS, WHICH REDUCES OR ELIMINATES VISIBILITY FROM THE DOOR WINDOWS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE. BMW ADMITS THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR OR REPLACE WINDOWS. BMW DEALER ESTIMATES COST TO REPLACE WINDOWS IS NEARLY $6000. *NM
VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL WINDOWS. WINDOWS ARE STARTING TO SEPARATE AT TOP AND IN THE MIDDLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

Reports naming the automatic or manual transmission, including shifting behaviour, shudder, slipping and transmission control modules.
From owner reports, verbatim
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 1999 BMW 750IL SCREAMED, & ROARED AND LURCHED INTO FOWARD AND THAN NOTHING. NO FORWARD OR REVERSE. AT THIS TIME NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. FROM ALL THE INTERNET SITES I HAVE RESEARCHED INCLUDING NHTSA IT APPEARS THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE ONE THAT HAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND YET BMW AND THE DEALER SAY NO AND DENY ANY LIABILITY. YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED. THE NHTSA RECALL ID # IS 99V005000. THANKS.
