2016 Cadillac Srx Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My 2016 Cadillac SRX has faulty just like the rest of the 2010 to the 2015 Cadillac SRXs front headlight assemblies that you cannot see at night and then they eventually just die out because of moisture getting in I've had to replace mine and it's cost me $2,400 to replace them GM is very well aware of this issue this is a dangerous situation people cannot drive at night we cannot drive during inclemented weather. Barely can drive with your brights on this is a dangerous dangerous situation. Should have a recall GM is very well aware of the faulty lights that are installed in these vehicles. The situation started in September of 2020.

The contact owns a 2016 Cadillac SRX. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she could not see out of the rear window. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that condensation had accumulated on the inside of the rear window. The contact also discovered that he was unable to open the rear hatch from the outside and had to use a screwdriver to open the hatch. Once opened, he discovered that the spare tire and rear side compartments were all filled with water. The rear hatch module was also submerged in water which led to the hatch failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 21,000.

My lift gate has stopped working. I cannot open the back of my car in any way! I am handicapped and the power lift gate is very important to me because I have to store my walker in the car when I drive. Now since I can’t open the back of the car it is very difficult to get anywhere for me. When I looked up the issue, it seems Cadillac has a problem with this model (SRX) from 2010-2016. The issue develops because rain runs down the Sun roof straight into the place that the lift gate parts are in- and the parts corrode. Once the lift gate power system fails there is no way to manually open the back of the car. There is no manual release, and no place to insert a key. This problem is well documented online with attempted class action suits that failed to “gain traction” per various attorneys. I have been told by the repair center that it will cost about $5000 to fix because of the difficulty of reaching the parts that need replacing. They say that the repair will take about 10 hours of service to replace the corroded pieces. I am so disappointed in Cadillac. They knew of the design flaw since 2010 but did not address it until 2017. There is no reason that unsuspecting owners should get stuck with a $5000 repair due to a design flaw! I purchased this car 2 yrs ago, and only found it now because we get so little rain in California, and I have a garage. We had an abnormally large amount of rain in December and it failed right after the largest rainfall we have had in years.

After purchasing our 2016 Cadillac SRX we began to notice the head lites were becoming dimmer over time and now to a point that we are unable to drive at nite and need to put high beams on if subjected to nite driving .This creates a blinding hazard for oncoming vehicles. After several attempts of replacing bulbs to improve condition of lites I began to investigate and found that there is a recall for other year models of Cadillac SRX but 2016 is not included. This issue is widespread and undoubtedly will cause accidents and possibly death to motorist. Cadilac is aware of this issue and has yet to recall these vehicles to repair obvious and known issues.

The contact owns a 2016 Cadillac SRX. The contact stated upon entering the vehicle, she noticed that there was a crack on the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) system screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated while she was driving, she touched the cue system screen however, it failed to respond due to the crack. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that she would be responsible for the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED A SMALL STRESS FRACTURE APPEAR IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF THE CENTRAL DIGITAL DASHBOARD OF MY VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD PROJECTS SAFETY, ENTERTAINMENT AND AUTOMOBILE OPERATING STATUS (E.G. DEFLATED TIRES, ONSTAR ALERTS, ETC.). AS THE FRACTURE GREW IT REVEALED A SPIDER WEB OF FRACTURES DISTORTING THE DASHBOARD AND AFFECTING THE SYSTEM'S OPERATION. THE SYSTEM WOULD SUDDEN BEGIN FLASHING DIFFERENT ICONS, SWIPING FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHICH IS VERY DISTRACTING. THE DIGITAL ICONS ARE NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL YET THE FRACTURES CONTINUE TO GROW AND THE DASHBOARD IS VERY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING. WE REPORTED THE DEFECT TO MARVIN K. BROWN CADILLAC AND WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR, MERLE PORTER, SEVERAL OTHER SRX OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE, IN WHICH GM RECOGNIZED AS A VEHICLE DEFECT. MR. PORTER REPORTED THE DEFECT TO GM, HOWEVER, GM DID NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND REFUSED TO RECALL THE COMPONENT OR REPLACE THE COMPONENT. ON 09/29/2018, I SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT TO GM ASKING FOR A FURTHER INVESTIGATION (CASE # 84675794778). THE ORIGIN OF THE FRACTURE IS LOCATED IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF THE PANEL AND NO EXTERNAL FORCE OR IMPACT IS VISIBLE AND NO DAMAGE WAS OCCURRED BY ME OR MY PASSENGERS. I FEEL THIS DEFECT IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO ITS DRIVER DISTRACTING RANDOMLY AND CONSISTING MOVING ICONS.

DIGITAL AND ANALOG SPEEDOMETERS ARE NOT SYNCHRONIZED, VARIATION OF 3+ MPH. GM STATES VARIATION IS NOT ADJUSTABLE, IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS, BUT WILL NOT STATE WHICH READING IS ACCURATE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE THE DRIVER CANNOT ACCURATELY TELL IF THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING A HIGHER SPEED THAN SHOWN ON THE SPEEDOMETER.
