Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Lafayette PowerSports is not ordering my recall part. Been since April 22nd that I first contacted them about it. A month and a half later, I went in person, and they never ordered it. They said they'll order it and should be here by 4 days. Waited a week, called them, rep told me they can't check and have to wait for the manager to get back and they'll call me. It's been a week later and still nothing. This is a recall part that can fall into my forks and effect my steering. Pretty serious and they're not taking it serious

The contact owns a 2023 CF Moto 450SS Motorcycle. The contact stated that while riding at 15 MPH, the rear brakes failed to operate while attempting to stop the motorcycle. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact attempted to take the motorcycle to the dealer for service. Upon entering a parking lot, the front brake handles began to stick. Due to the failure, the motorcycle was difficult to accelerate. The contact made it to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The mechanic stated that the brake light pressure switch had failed and caused the rear brake defect. The contact was then informed that the front brake handle defect was caused by a brake master cylinder failure. The motorcycle was repaired under warranty. Recently, the contact stated that while riding 45 MPH, the motorcycle shut off without warning. The contact engaged the clutch to safely pull off to the shoulder of the road. The failure nearly caused the contact to be thrown off the bike. Due to the failure, the motorcycle was towed to the dealer however, the motorcycle was not yet diagnosed. The motorcycle had yet to be repaired. The motorcycle remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,100.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

SERVICE BRAKES

Due to feedback that the brake bleeding procedure in motorcycle service manuals is not always successful, CFMOTO-USA developed a procedure to supplement the service manual information.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The dashboard on model year 2023 450SS motorcycles displays distance in inches rather than feet while the navigation function is used.

cf2023-16w

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

CFMOTO has determined that some 450SS models could have a display issue in that the distance units are displayed in inches instead of feet when using the simple navigation function on the dashboard. This is caused by the wrong imperial minimum distance unit definition in the dashboard software. The dashboard software needs to be updated at the Dealer to the latest software version to fix the issue.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
