1988 Chevrolet Blazer Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1988 Chevrolet Blazer, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim

I'VE TRIED EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE POSSIBLE TO GET SEAT BELTS TO WORK INCLUDING A FAST DEAD STOP, TURNING CORNERS AND YANKING EXTREMELY FAST AND AT A DEAD STOP. YOU CAN YANK THESE BELTS EXCEPTIONALLY FAST AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL THEY WORK.

NHTSA ID 9004704 · filed Sep 26, 2001

WHEN ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE SHOULDER PORTION OF THE SEATBELT WOULD NOT RETRACT, THE ASSMBLY WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE MENTIONED DEALER AND REPLACED. ON 6/29/99 THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURED, THE SHOULDER PORTION OF THE BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT. I PURCHASED ANOTHER ASSEMBLY FROM THE SAME DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND CHARGED ME 130.94 + 7% TAX. IN AUGUST OF 1999 THAT NEW ASSEMBLY AGAIN FAILED IN THE SAME WAY. THIS TIME IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WROTE TO GM AT THE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL FAILURE, THEY RESPONDED, NO COVERAGE, NO REIMBURSEMENT. I WROTE AGAIN WITH THIS FAILURE AND THEY RESPONDED THE SAME. I'M CONCERNED THAT WITH THE SAME FAILURE, MULTIUPLE TIMES, IN THE SAME WAY, WITH NEW PARTS, THAT IN THE EVENT THE SEATBELT IS NEEDED, IT WILL NOT WORK. *AK
