What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
The steering system stopped working suddenly. Sounds exactly like the recall but my VIN is not included in the recall. I had to replace the steering system at the local deal shop and I paid 100% of the cost. It only has 12,000 miles.
The vehicle has repeatedly lost electrical power while driving. During one incident at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle’s electronics shut off and power steering assist stuttered/lost assist for several seconds, causing reduced vehicle control. During another incident while turning/in a turning lane, the engine and electronics shut off and the vehicle had to be restarted. Afterward, the vehicle struggled to restart and displayed a warning to drive cautiously due to power steering loss. The vehicle also has recurring hot-start/no-start symptoms and electrical loss after shutting the engine off. Based on my research, GM Bulletin 19-NA-052 appears to describe a related condition on 2016–2019 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L vehicles where circuit 1 may short to ground at the starter heat shield, causing loss of electrical power or failure to start, with repair involving the starter solenoid cable. This appears to be a safety-related manufacturing/design defect because the vehicle can lose electrical power and steering assist while in motion. The vehicle/component is available for inspection upon request.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle does a vibration at high way speeds of 40 to 80 mph. Found several threads online stating the same issue. Found a technical service bulletin regarding this issue (18-NA-355). My vehicle needs a new transmission stated by the service shop.
Chevrolet has a well documented issue with the automatic transmission on my car. This is the same model transmission in other cars as well. First issue: the stock transmission fluid was incorrect. This required repairs. The underlying issue is the torque converters and solenoid. Most recently, one solenoid got stuck and forced my car into Limp mode while driving. This caused the vehicle to force 4th gear and incapacitated my ability to control my speed correctly. I was forced to pull off to the side until the computer reset itself again. A less experienced driver could potentially get into a car accident without the ability to properly regulate speed
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle has repeatedly lost electrical power while driving. During one incident at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle’s electronics shut off and power steering assist stuttered/lost assist for several seconds, causing reduced vehicle control. During another incident while turning/in a turning lane, the engine and electronics shut off and the vehicle had to be restarted. Got trapped inside the car in 100 degree weather plus humidity. The car started the whole and operated perfectly fine while a message prompted on the dash. After doing a push to start that morning before work. The car runs for 10mins until it shuts off. That morning closed myself in to get ready to head to work. Remote not detected prompted. It said it three times that day. The last time it said it I was heading home after getting food. After a push to start that’s when it trapped me inside. Called 911 in Rocky Mount Nc. All they were worried about is a OnStar button. If I had to wait on them probably would’ve been dead. Cause they have to ask a multitude of questions. Rescuers never came. While OnStar was on speaker I thought to check to see if I had the app available to unlock the doors. Usually I don’t pay the bill for it thought the remote way was better. Due to the fact that the app takes a while to upload and could update at anytime as well as signal issues in certain places. Luckily it was setup on autopay. Although it did take a little while to load I was kind of at ease knowing OnStar was still on the speaker. Spoke with a Gm specialist about doing a recall. Instead expressed that, that’s if my vehicle is even eligible for an upgrade. Had suggested the installation of physical unlock levers instead they ignored the suggestion. This is a deadly safety hazard not only for myself but for others as well. Especially if they are not alert about it. When I found that the key fob wasn’t rechargeable inside the vehicle after being trapped inside it. I bought a battery from the Chevy company that was brand new but still a dead battery. Which caused me not to be able to start the vehicle at all. The only thing that help was recharging the battery on the Apple Watch charger by removing the battery from the key fob. Not everyone knows that and still isn’t a good and or safe reliable method to use cause of uncertainty of battery life. Let the car go back for this reason.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

Thermostat is not lasting to recommend mileage. Gm states that this part start going bad at 100,000 miles. My vehicle had 40,000 miles when my thermostat went out. I looked online and this been an ongoing problem. For Chevy Camaro owners.
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
GM has a service bulletin about issue. it involves all 2016 to current Camaro Convertible models. Back window that is sealed to the top just suddenly pops out. Rolling down window at highway speed while top up just pops out back window. the service bulletin states that and insufficient amount of primer is used during the assembly process. This allows the material to separate from glass. Window just pops out. purchased car new november of 2018 with 50 miles on it. car is garage kept and has less then 17000 miles. i am on my 3rd top. Gm will not cover the serious and potentially dangerous problem. TOP right of passenger side window failed. driving with top up and window open will further seperate glass from top and blow out. car is not safe to drive with top up.
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS WINDSHIELD HAS ALWAYS FOGGED UP. ISSUE SEEMED MINOR AT FIRST BUT IS ANNOYING AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN RUNNING THE AC, I ALWAYS HAVE TO TURN ON WIPERS TO CLEAR-AND CONDENSATION IS ALWAYS RIGHT ABOVE DEFROST VENT.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The side detection system has failed. i know chevy has been having a lot of issues with this and now its hit my car. i demand a law suit or a shut down or a government enforced mandatory repair at no cost to customer.
There have been multiple problems with the check engine light .the car vibrating i have had this car serviced multiple times for the same thing and now my transmission needs to be rebuilt which this car has less than 50,000 miles
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
Airbag service light came on, which required us to bring to the dealership. Quote to access and replace airbag module came to roughly $1350.
-The Air bag light on the dashboard it's coming up, stays on, the passenger seat reader light stays on even if there is no nobody seating and when a person seats on passenger seat the passenger air bag sensor light says is off. -Yes I'm available for inspection upon request. -The safety of the passenger and mine is in risk everytime I use the car. -It has never been inspected by that problem before ( but based on socialmedia grups with the same car we have the issue) -never had a check engine light on.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the brake pedal became firm while depressed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact used excessive force while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact associated the brake failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V576000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed to call NHSTA for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 37.000.
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
The back glass on my convertible is separating from the fabric. This isn't something I did or anyone else has done. This is a huge problem with thousands of camaro owners that have a convertible. Something needs to be done because its obvious that the design that was used on mine and many many others alike is a flawed and something that we should not have to deal with. Right now my only options are to buy a new top and spend over $3,000 to have it installed or buy some glue and rig it up myself but I refuse to do that. Please, this is my first Camaro and I love it and just want it fixed. I don't see any Mustangs or other convertibles having this issue. Attached with my photos is a screenshot from a Facebook post with over 300 comments of people having the same issue and also a service bulletin that was put out a while back. There needs to be a recall on this issue or lawsuits are going to start being filed. Thats what most people are threatening to do now.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that rainwater leaked into the vehicle on the front passenger’s side of the vehicle. The contact stated that they were unsure if the water was leaking by the rear seats of the vehicle. The contact could hear air entering the cabin of the vehicle and see some outside light entering through the top and sides of the convertible roof. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the sound of air and hints of light entering through the seal of the convertible roof was normal. However, the leaking was repaired by replacing the seals around the roof. The contact stated the failure reoccurred during the next inclement weather. Currently, the convertible top failed to return to the upward position after being lowered. Several attempts were needed for the convertible top to return to the closed position. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was not covered under a recall nor under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 40,042.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
This car originally was towed four times because of the failure of the fuel pump wiring harness to the PCM unit the fix was they put a fusible link between the fuel pump I believe and the PCU it still has problems it's intermittent it has issues of burning and melting the case or the plug-in is burnt in there we've addressed it with upper management of Chevrolet and they wanted us to take it to a different dealership and it was just a fiasco after that they said they fixed it they didn't fix it gave it back to us. I'm the father of the driver of the car I worry about my grandchildren and my son having a fire in that car I keep having problems we have to go get them and jump start them and figure the mess with the wires in the trunk so tired of this thing please help there has been consecutively people on the internet telling how to fix which General Motors should be responsible for this fix is pathetic how much I've read about it

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The safety retention cable associated with securing the the driver's seat belt to the driver's seat broke. The stainless steel cable, being approximately 1/4" to 5/16" in diameter, became disconnected from the entire driver's side seat belt. Making the seat belt totally unusable to the driver of the vehicle. It is unknown what caused the cable to because cut and/or fail but, I am a 30 year military aviation maintenance veteran who has seen my fair share of material failure and the manner in which this cable failed is absolutely due to a material defect.
My air bag light keeps popping up and tells me to service the air bags system and now it does it when nobody is on the seat too, the dealer told me they found the problem and charged me 500 and some dollars and i returned the car the same day they said it was fixed cause it was doing it again , I'm scared it might deploy. I never usually have anybody with me but sometimes my wife comes with me and they say is the seat restraints and i keep getting the run around. Thank you....

THE CAR VIBRATES WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OVER 30 MPH. IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIP. IT DOES THIS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT NOW. IT ALSO SHIFTS HARD AS IT CHANGES GEARS. I HAD TO HAVE A NEW REAR BOOT PUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ALL OF THE GREASE IN THE REAR WHEEL BOOT WAS ALL OVER MY WHEEL. THERE IS A ROAR IN THE REAR END WHEN YOU FIRST PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS IN THE REAR AXLE.
