2005 Chevrolet Express 2500 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Chevrolet Express 2500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR INSPECTION AND FAILED DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER RUSTING OUT. IT IS 7 YEARS OLD BUT HAS LOW MILEAGE. I DO NOT FEEL THAT FAILURE OF THE FRAME SHOULD HAPPEN I WAS TOLD THAT THIS FAILURE DUE TO RUST IS COMMON ON THESE VANS AND THEY MAKE A REPLACEMENT CROSS MEMBER THAT BOLTS RIGHT IN BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE ABS SENSORS DUE TO CORROSION AND NOW THIS, BOTH ARE SAFETY PARTS AND FAILED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR THE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IN NORTHERN STATES. *JB

PASSENGER SIDE DOUBLE DOOR HINGES GOT SO TIGHT THAT THEY SNAPPED THE HINGE. NO LUBE WOULD LOOSEN PRIOR TO BREAKING. THIS WEEK THE RIGHT DOOR EXACT SAME THING. HINGE SNAPPED. THE ORIGINAL HINGES ARE DEFECTIVE AND ARE UNABLE TO BE LUBED. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE NEW ONES ARE MADE WITH GREASE FITTINGS. I JUST LOOKED ON LINE AT A FORUM AND THERE ARE SEVERAL LISTINGS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM FOR YEARS. *TR
