1997 Chevrolet G35 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE ENGINE HAS TURNED OFF, THE POWER BRAKES FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THIS CARGO VAN, FULLY LOADED, IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, WHEN THIS OCCURS(3 TIMES IN 18 MONTHS) THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE SITUATION, AND HAS INSTRUCTED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH A RECORDING DEVICE PLUGGED INTO ITS COMPUTER. THIS WILL ALLOW ME TO PRESS A RED BUTTON TO INITIATE RECORDING WHEN THE PROBLEM RECURRS, HOWEVER I THINK DRIVIND THIS VEHICLE ON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO MYSELF AND THE OTHER DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. *AK

ABS BRAKING PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY FRONT TO REAR PROPORTIONING. IDOT TRUCK TESTING SHOWED THAT THE FRONT BRAKING DOES APPROXIMATELY 90 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL BRAKING CAUSING THE FRONT TIRES TO LOCK PREMATURELY THUS ACTIVATING THE ABS. THIS CAUSES A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN THE BRAKING OF THE VEHICLE.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
