1997 Chevrolet Lumina Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE SEATBELT BECAME VERY TIGHT ON MY DAUGHTER, I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE SHOULDER BELT TO RELEASE (IT SHOULD WHEN THE BELT IS FED INTO THE UPPER PART0 IT WOULD NOT RELEASE, AND BECAME TIGHTER. MY DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT SO WE CUT THE BELT TO GET HER REMOVED FROM THE SEAT BELT. THE OPPOSITTE SIDE WORKS CORRECTLY. WE WERE TOLD THERE IS NO WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE MILAGE ON THE CAR. I ASKED ABOUT IT BEING A SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR, THEY SAID IT DIDN'T MATTER. COST APPROX. $130.00. *AK
