2019 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Fuel system Problems

WHEN I UNLOCKED THE DOOR AND ENTERED THE TRUCK GAS STARTED LEAKING / pouring from the top of the fuel tank. ON THE GROUND BEFORE I STARTED THE MOTOR. IF I HAD DRIVEN THE TRUCK VERY POSIBLE IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. ITS A 2019 WITH 61598 MILES. I FOUND A FUEL PUMP RECALL N192283991 SAID FOR CERTAIN 2019-2020 SILVERADO MODELS IT APPEARS I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVE NOT CHECKED WITH A DEALER YET. TRUCK WILL HAVE TO BE TOWED.

AFM causing engine tick. I am reporting a radiator failure on my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 6.2L V8. The vehicle developed an active coolant leak from the radiator assembly. The coolant reservoir level dropped significantly after normal driving, and coolant was visibly leaking and collecting underneath the vehicle. The truck initially began running warmer than normal, approximately 215–220°F, before the leak was fully identified. After topping the system with the correct DEX-COOL coolant, the coolant level continued to drop and an external leak became clearly visible. The vehicle was subsequently parked to avoid engine overheating or further damage. The original radiator carries GM part number 84152439. I have since been advised that the current GM replacement radiator is part number 85575815. I was also informed by GM dealership personnel that radiator failures involving this application are currently being investigated. My concern is that a sudden radiator failure can result in rapid coolant loss and overheating, potentially causing engine damage or vehicle disablement while driving. This is particularly concerning because the temperature gauge may initially remain near normal even while coolant is being lost. I am requesting that NHTSA review radiator failures on 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models, particularly vehicles equipped with the 6.2L engine and heavy-duty/enhanced cooling package, to determine whether there is a pattern of premature radiator cracking, tank/seam failure, or other coolant-loss defects that warrant a safety investigation, service campaign, or recall.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 Trail Boss (VIN [XXX]), currently at approximately 63,000 miles. My truck suddenly developed a rough idle, engine ticking, and a cylinder 3 misfire. The check engine, traction control, parking brake, and “Service ESC” warnings appeared. The transmission also began shifting extremely hard, at times feeling as though another vehicle had struck the truck from behind. The oil pressure gauge also stopped functioning. Due to these symptoms, I stopped driving the vehicle. A diagnostic scan produced P0303, P0449, P0498, P0499 and P0500. After replacing a failed cylinder 3 spark plug, the truck initially ran perfectly for approximately 20 minutes before the rough idle and warning lights returned. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership. The dealership determined that the engine suffered a collapsed lifter that damaged the camshaft and other internal engine components. The engine repair estimate is approximately $10,000–$12,000. The dealership has also reported that the transmission is slipping and believes the torque converter/transmission requires approximately another $6,300 in repairs. I am concerned that a lifter/DFM-related failure causing a misfire, rough running and potential loss of engine power could occur while a vehicle is traveling at highway speed and create a significant safety hazard. The severe transmission shifting and subsequent slipping are also concerning because unexpected vehicle behavior during acceleration or while in traffic could increase the risk of a crash. The truck has been regularly maintained and has relatively low mileage for its age. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether similar engine/lifter/DFM and related powertrain failures represent a broader safety defect and whether an investigation or recall is warranted. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH and attempting to accelerate to 55 MPH, the engine started choking, and the vehicle lunged back and forth, and slowly lost drive power. The vehicle was driven to a local certified mechanic while driving at slower speeds. The certified mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the Active Fuel Management (AFM) and Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) systems had failed and caused the engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic informed the contact that Chevrolet vehicles with similar engines were known for engine failure. The manufacturer was not informed of the issue. I purchased the truck in 2021 from a chevy dealer with 32k miles on it, truck looked great and performed great, at 42k miles it started to be sluggish and it would vibrate between 30-40 and 60-70 as i feathered the gas pedal to maintain speed, but if i gave it more gas or take my foot off the pedal it would stop vibrating, I've taken it to 2 chevy dealers, the first one said it drives within GM spec's. the 2nd one looked more promising but my warranty ran out at 75k and i was at that mileage. So today at 93k on it, it still vibrates and sluggish from a start. I looked online and many people have similar problems. ALSO: The paint around my front wheels is peeling off down to the primer, I've had many vehicles and never had this happen to me, It's just flaking off, When i had the truck at the chevy dealer for maintenance and told him about it, He said GM will not fix it and they know about the issue. Now these trucks are not cheap, It seems like once they sell the vehicle GM washes their hands of it, I guess that's why they only give you 36,000 mile warranty because they don't even trust their product to last.

I Was traveling home one night and the truck shut off while driving and lost all power, loosing all steering, braking power aswell as all my lights while traveling down the road in the dark. . When I went to start it again all I would get was a cranking noise but no firing. After 30 minutes of waiting the truck started again. In which I drove it 3 more miles before it shut down again. After that it would not crank nor start. I then had the vehicle towed to my local Chevrolet dealer, and they had notified me that the engine had failed and locked up. In the process it had also taken out the FPCM (fuel pump control module) aswell as the high pressure fuel pump located on top of the motor. Causing me to have a new motor from GM installed. I had no previous problems or lights before this had happened.

I’d like to report a serious, ongoing safety concern with my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado (5.3 V8 53,028 mi) since Dec 2025. Over the last 4 months, I have experienced at least 20 engine failures/loss of power, with no engine light illuminated after restarting truck. These failures result in a complete loss of power, including steering and braking, posing a significant risk of a crash. Chevy said it would be hard to diagnose with no engine warning light on. Feb 24th, engine failure, warning light stayed on and towed truck to Chevy. Truck on standby, repaired Mar 10th, replacing 2 oxygen sensors per Diagnostics. Picked it up on March 11th, but engine shutdown again the same day and 4 additional failures while driving in my neighborhood, making the truck undrivable. I reached out to Chevy service supervisor, Juliana, but have received no response for the last 10 days. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect as it poses a severe safety risk. VECHILE CONTINUES TO FAIL OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, TEST BEGAN 09/2023, AND CONTINUES TO BE THE ISSUE PRESENT DAY. ENGINE WAS REPLACED 2025, 3-4 MONTHS LATER TRANMISSION WENT OUT. TRANSMISSION REPLACED 2025. OIL CONSUMPTION CONTINUES TO FAIL. DEALERSHIP CHUCK HUTTON 2471 MT. MORIAH ROAD, MEMPHIS, TN 38115 PERFORMED ALL THESE SERVICES. SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THE LEAKING OIL POLLUTION IS CAUSING HARM TO ME AND MY FAMILY AS WELL AS LEAVING OIL RESIDUE IN THE DRIVEWAY. NO WARNING MESSAGES EXCEPT FOR WHEN IT SAYS ADD OIL, THAT'S WHEN I'M PUT ON NOTICE THAT THE VECHILE IS LOSING OIL. DUE TO THE LEAKING OIL, OIL IS NOW MIXING WITH GASOLINE, INDICATING THERE TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP. NOW BEIND DIRECTED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. THIS HAS BECOME VERY COSTLY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY AND CONTINUES TO BE AN ON-GOING PROBLEM

The oil cooler lines cracked due to cold weather and oil spouted out of the engine. Truck was immediately pulled over when the chime went off, however the engine still seized up and needs to be replaced. No warning lights before, just the chime at 0 oil pressure. I see that Canada and Alaska has this part recalled and I want to know why it’s not recalled everywhere. No oil was leaking prior to this incident. This left us stranded on the side of the highway and we now have to purchase a new engine with only 65,000 miles on it.

I was driving on the interstate, when all my dash lights came on. When stationed, it would vibrate and have excessive smoke come from the exhaust when I would start driving again. After arriving to my destination there was an unusual burning/smokey smell when I got out of the vehicle. I got it scanned and it said it was a cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced the spark plug, coolant, gaskets. Still wasn’t fixed. Then I replaced the fuel injector. Still not working. The mechanic said the oil psi was 30. The vehicle was also burning thru gas and oil quicker than usual. Took it to the dealership and they said it needs a whole new engine and warranty is unsure if they will cover it or not.

One day when headed out of town I stopped and got gas immediately once getting back on the highway my dash lit up like a Christmas tree, driving became uncomfortable as it sputtered when trying to give gas. I looked up a couple of the dash warning lights and it alluded to emission problems. I take the truck to the mechanic and he says that a head is cracked and the cam shaft needs to be repaired. This issue came out of nowhere, no prior issues as far as over heating or any dash lights on.

I went to drive my truck and it would start but I got a “ service power steering no assist “, service rear vision camera, service trailer brake system. Then it wouldn’t start and got the “ lost communication with fuel pump control module, back up camera was flashing in and out and license plate lights would flash with turn signal on.

While exiting the highway from 70MPH my truck quit running on the exit ramp as I approached the end of the ramp. The truck would not restart and blocked traffic until I was able to get a tow truck. After the truck was towed back to my home I was able to scan the truck and found P129F code reporting (Fuel Pump Driver Control Module Fuel Pump Speed Signal Incorrect) (see attached report). Only after purchasing a Fuel Pump Driver Control Module from the dealer (P/N) 13565641 (replacement for the original 13531875 P/N) and installing it would the truck start. This was a real safety concern as other driver were also exiting the highway at speed while my truck was blocking a lane. The fuel pump control modules should be designed in "fail safe" way to allow the fuel pump to continue even if it isn't running at the most optimal level.

I stopped at street light, Automatic Fuel Management system shut off engine. As engine restarted I experienced several dash lights came on. The engine light continued to blink and E light stayed on. Immediately went to dealer, 1 mile away. Computer said cylinder 5 was misfiring. Upon repair the lifter was bent and the cam shaft was damaged. Repairs were over $7,000.00. Truck had oil changes on time, all performed by the dealer. Truck had 67,000.00 miles. Repairs have been completed.

I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss that exhibits strange and persistent issues. A recurring engine code appears P0499, clears itself, and then reappears without consistent resolution. This affects the remote starter as the engine light will be engaged. Additionally, several service warnings flash momentarily and disappear, including: •Service Trailer Brake System •Brake System Failure – Top Speed Limited to 62 or 43 MPH •Parking Sensor Unavailable These warnings occur without warning and vanish too quickly to document fully. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, technicians have been unable to replicate or resolve the problem. This unpredictable behavior creates safety concerns, particularly regarding brake system reliability and sensor functionality. I and many others experiencing these same issues are concerned about a potential electrical or sensor issue impacting vehicle performance and safety.
