1993 Chevrolet Pickup Truck Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1993 Chevrolet Pickup Truck, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

TREAD SEPARATION. THE FIRST (2/8/2001) ONE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES OF USE (89,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE) AND WAS NOTICED (SEVERE VIBRATION) PRIOR TO ACTUAL TIRE FAILURE AND COMPLETE SEPARATION. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE WAS AT 39,000 MILES OF USE. *AK (DOT NUMBER: 78A3PUA457 TIRESIZE: 245/75R16)

NHTSA ID 745991 · filed May 27, 2001

I PURCHASED THE TIRES IN FEBRUARY OF 2001, ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT THEM, I WENT OVER A SMALL CURB IN THE SNOW. BOTH FRONT TIRES BLEW OUT AT THE SIDEWALLS. I E-MAILED GOODYEAR AND TOLD THEM OF MY PROBLEM.THEY RESPONDED BY REPLACING TIRES AND CHARGING ME FOR THE LABOR. MAY 15, 2001, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55-60 MPH. WHEN MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLEW OUT AT THE INSIDE SIDEWALL FORCING THE TRUCK TO PULL HARD TO THE RIGHT AND OFF THE ROAD. MY RIGHT SHOULDER WAS INJURED DUE TO THIS INCIDENT. I FEEL THAT THESE TIRES HAVE A POTENTIALLY DEADLY DEFECT AND I WOULD LIKE SOME KIND OF INVESTIGATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. RICHARD JEFFORDS. *AK (TIRESIZE: 225 75 R16)( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 225 75 R16 )

WINSHIELD WIPERS FAULTY. THEY WILL WORK AND THAN STOP WORKING AND THAN WORK AGAIN. I WAS ADVICED FROM GM THAT THE YEARS 1994-1997 HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT NOT THE 1993 YEAR. I TALKED TO A MANAGER NAMED JACK CUNNINGHAM AT 866 942 4368 X 48470, ON 082903 AND HE ADVICED ME THAT UNDER THE SPECIAL POLICY IF MY VEHICLE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE RECALL GM WOULD HONOR THE RECALL TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE FIXED. THE GM DEALER ED BOZARTH, NEEDED TO TALK TO JACK TO MAKE SURE THE REPAIRS WOULD BE FIXED, BUT AS OF TODAY JACK HAS NOT RETURNED A CALL TO THEM OR MYSELF. I CALLED THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE 800 LINE AND THEY ADVICED ME THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I ADVICED THEM THAT I TALKED TO JACK AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TRANSFER ME BACK TO HIS AUDIX. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE 1993 NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ALONG WITH THE 1994-1997 RECALL NOW IN PLACE. THANK YOU. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
