1996 Chevrolet S Pickup Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1996 Chevrolet S Pickup, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I READ WITH GREAT INTEREST TODAY THAT GM IS RECALLING SEVERAL PICKUPS AND SUVS FOR THE INADVERTENT APPLICATION OF ABS IN LOW SPEED STOPS. I WAS SURPRISED, HOWEVER, THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT NAMED. I DRIVE A 1996 CHEVY S-10 PICKUP, AND, ON THREE OCCASIONS, HAVE HAD THE ABS 'KICK IN' WHEN DOING A VERY GRADUAL STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT. TWICE I ALMOST REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ONCE THERE WAS NO ONE AND I MERELY DRIFTED INTO THE INTERSECTION BY A FEW FEET. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU INCREASE THE SCOPE OF YOUR INVESTIGATION TO INCLUDE MY YEAR AND MODEL OF VEHICLE, AS IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT HAVE DRIVEN YOUR CURRENT RECALL.
