2000 Chevrolet S Pickup Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2000 Chevrolet S Pickup, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

2000 CHEVROLET S-10 PICK-UP TAILGATE CABLE FAILED, W VEHICLE ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD, ONE SIDE ONLY, BROKE IN HALF, NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO VEHICLE PARTS, I REPLACED $40 CABLE AND LATCH ASSEMBLY. *NM
IN LATE SPRING OF THIS YEAR, I EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF MY LEFT TAILGATE CABLE DURING THE LOADING OF A MODERATE LOAD OF ABOUT 300 LBS. THANK GOD NOBODY WAS HURT. I WENT TO A COUPLE DEALERS AROUND TO FIND OUT ABOUT A REPLACEMENT. I'M AWARE OF THE RECALL FOR THE C/K TAILGATE CABLE SO INQUIRED ABOUT THAT FOR MY VEHICLE. WAS TOLD THERE WAS NONE AND PROBABLY WON'T BE DUE TO LOW COMPLAINT VOLUME. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS FAILURE IS NORMAL IN SUCH A SHORT TIME DUE TO SALT USE ON THE ROADS HERE. I DON'T BUY THAT; I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER. GM'S EXPLANATION OF WHY THEY AREN'T RECALLED (LOWER TAILGATE WEIGHT,ETC) DOESN'T JIVE CONSIDERING THE LOW LOAD THAT BROKE THIS CABLE THOUGH THEY ADMIT THE MATERIAL IS DEFECTIVE (SAME AS C/K MATERIAL). I'M EXPECTING THE OTHER ONE TO GO ANY TIME. THE PART IS AVAILABLE BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO GET THE LATCH TOO, WHICH IS FINE ON MINE.*JB

I TURNED OFF MY 2000 CHEVY S10 TRUCK AND TOOK OUT THE KEY AND IT STARTED DINGING, LIKE THE KEY IS IN AND THE DOOR IS OPEN. THEN IT STARTED TRYING TO START ITSELF WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION AND PROCEEDED TO DO THIS FOR A FEW MINUTES, EVENTUALLY STOPPING. UNDER THE HOOD, THE WIRING HARNESS WAS ON FIRE. *TR

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY S-10 PU. THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AT ABOUT 49,000 MILES. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THIS PART IS FAILING AT VERY LOW MILEAGE. A CAR WITH THAT MILEAGE SHOULD NOT FAILED. IN ADDITION SINCE THE FUEL PUMP IS INSIDE THE TANK IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. *LA
