when applying the brakes and come to a complete stop and when you try to apply the brakes you have no power assist and when backing up if you apply the brakes more then once you have no power assist.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle was smoking from the rear, and the ABS failed to operate as designed, causing the wheels to lock-up. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. The service stabili-trak warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the wheel speed sensor had failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
The brakes fail on a regular basis!! If when backing out of a parking space you lightly press the brake, slightly release and try to depress the brakes again, power braking appears to be completely gone! The same applies moving forward. Especially in high traffic situations. Cars will move forward slowly. As you release the brakes and start to move but need to reapply as traffic starts to slow again the suburban requires maximum effort to press the brake pedal and get the vehicle to stop. I’m 240lbs. I have to press hard! My wife has almost rear ended multiple cars due to this issue. It’s typically low speed so the damage would be minimal to another vehicle. However, my wife is a school teacher! Kids cross the teacher parking lot all the time! If she lets off her brakes to go and a student walks in front of the suburban, the results could be catastrophic! This is a MAJOR safety issue. I see there is already a recall for MANY vehicles just like mine!! Please tell me why this is not being fixed on ours!! The problem can be reproduced on command. It almost sounds like it’s metal to metal contact when it happens. If you let your foot completely off the brake pedal and roll forward it will revert back to normal operation. It is only when there is a gradual release then reapplication of braking pressure applied to the brake pedal. It has not been taken to the dealership as we can’t afford it at the moment. There are no warning lights currently showing on the vehicle display. This has been happening for quite some time. Probably six months or so but the website does not allow for a range of date. I put today’s date as my wife said she almost rear ended someone again today!!
Service Trailer Brake System light keeps coming on even after replacing the unit it self.
The brakes will sometimes not work properly. When the brake pedal is pressed when parking or coming to a stop, it takes longer for the vehicle to stop. The brake pedal will also vibrate when coming to a stop and "roll" to a stop. We have had our brakes checked twice in the last 3 months at the Chevrolet dealership and they say the brakes are fine. We now had an incident where we were parking in a parking garage and nearly hit the wall in front of us because the brakes did not stop the car properly. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership to have the brakes checked again (February 3rd, 2023). We were afraid to drive it ourselves on the freeway. Since it is the weekend, we have to wait until Monday (2/6/2023) for them to check our vehicle. We are going to let the dealership know what we have found online with the "recall" of certain 2017 Chevrolet Suburbans about a defect in the Brake Assist and Power Brake Vacuum Pump. This has been an ongoing issue we've had since we purchased the vehicle (new purchase in 2017), but it has progressively gotten worse.
antilock brake system makes it hard to press brakes mostly traveling at lower speed like when i’m parking. previously had it reprogrammed because of a recall but it continues to have this issue periodically. now i’m being told I need to replace to brake vacuum?
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at approximately 5 MPH and slowing to park the vehicle in his residence driveway, the brakes failed to function and the vehicle rolled into a large plastic refuse bin. There was minor damage to the front driver side of the bumper. The contact stated that he buffed out the damage. The contact stated that he did not feel the normal pressure from the brake pedal. The contact placed the vehicle into reverse (R) to back away from the refuse bin and again the brakes failed to function. The contact stated that the "brake assist" light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer, it was not diagnosed. The contact stated he replaced all four brake pads on his vehicle. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,027.
When I’m parking the car back and forth brake gets very hard to press and hard to stop and also after turning off trying to start but having hard time because of the brake is not applicable I have to press very hard These are the problems I have Thank you
The vacuum levels have dropped, causing a huge increase in braking effort. I could be rolling backwards in reverse and have the brake pedal all the way on the floor with all my strength and my car will still be rolling and eventually come to a stop. This is very unsafe and dangerous for me and also for others because it could cause me to roll into someone else’s vehicle. There has been a recall on this issue but I do not believe my car was serviced for it and it is no longer on the recall list. This is something that can be inspected at anytime seeing as it is only getting worse. Another issue I am now having is my transmission is kicking when going in and out of reverse, it won’t shift out of second and my transmission is now having to be rebuilt. I have no service lights on, no warnings and this was very sudden and out of no where.
At low speeds the brakes slip causing the vehicle to glide and not stop in the forward and reverse position. Almost hit pedestrian and other vehicles. This was reproduced by my auto technician. No warning lights on dash.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated, the brake pedal vibrated, and the brakes failed to engage without warning. The contact stated that added pressure to the brake pedal was needed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact stated that while conducting his own research, he became aware that similar vehicles were subjected to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, his vehicle was not included. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Vehicle became hard to stop/pressing brakes while pulling into my garage. Had to stomp the brakes hard to stop. There were no warnings prior to this issue. No check engine alert etc. Upon research, I see that there was a recall for a flaw with the suburban’s powered brake-assist system. When I put in my vin number it states that my vehicle is not included in the recall however this is the exact problem I am experiencing.
Brakes are shuttering at low speeds, and failing at low speeds. While in parking lot, attempting to park in parking space, brakes failed both in reverse and drive, posing a hazard of collision and possibly bodily damage.
The Brake Assist failed while driving slow in a parking lot. I could not stop the vehicle and narrowly missed an alert driver . Warning alerted me while it was happening... no advance warning.
There is no Brake assist at low speeds. Vacuum pump seems not to be functioning. Hard pedal hard to stop at parking lot speeds.
Vehicle brake pedal goes to floor while running 35 MPH or slower at times! I am a mechanic and feels like brake assist system is failing (brake pump)but not all the time! I took to dealer and they could not reproduce problem so sent me on my way. This is a large heavy 8 passenger vehicle and my wife’s so she is scared when this occurs and is now afraid to drive it. This was a $66,000 vehicle that has 64,000 easy highway miles on it and is in mint condition. I ran my vin and there is no recalls on the vin but still has a brake problem. I have all new brake pads and rotors front and rear I do myself as I am a over 30 year mechanic. This is a safety brake issue as I’ve had it happen to me and my wife and it scares you because it takes longer to stop when it occurs!
I brought my vehicle to Chevy dealer and I told service advisor something is wrong with brakes and/or brake assist. The brake pedal feels really stiff at low speeds. After dropping off keys with service advisor at Puyallup WA Chevy Harnish Auto Family I told them it might be something related to brake booster so something vacuum. After waiting for technician to diagnose the service advisor told me it was the vacuum pump and luckily it was covered under warranty.
Service Brake Assist comes in at random times. Brakes seem unresponsive while in reverse or at slow speeds. Brakes become muddy and non responsive. Very to maneuver. Have had several near misses in parking lots. Never seen this issue with any vehicle ever before.
STUCK IN DRIVE GEARS. GEARS WILL NOT SHIFT. BRAKE PEDAL STUCK. OCCURRED SUDDENLY WITH WARNING. VERY DANGEROUS. PREVIOUSLY THE VEHICLE BRAKES PEDAL WAS STUCK IN THE UPWARD POSITION. WOULD NOT GO DOWN. HAD TO FIX IT . CHEVY IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS LIFE THREATENING.
AFTER APPLYING AND RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT A SLOW SPEED TO COME TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD AND VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD TO PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL SLOWLY ROLL AND THEN FINALLY COME TO A STOP. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT'S THE VACUUM PUMP AND OIL LINES. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND THAT GM HAD A RECALL BACK IN 2018 ON 2014-2018 MODELS LIKE MINE HOWEVER, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED AND IF YOU SEARCH MY VIN IT SAYS NO RECALLS AVAILABLE. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??? I AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR INJURED OTHER PEOPLE IN A CRASH!
"SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" WARNING LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON ON MY 2017 SUBURBAN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESET THE SOFTWARE THAT CONTROLS THE BRAKES, BUT IT IS NOW SHOWING THE LIGHT AGAIN. COULD THIS HAPPEN IF THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED?

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) WHICH WAS SERVICED AT BONIFACE HIERS CHEVROLET (800 S HARBOR CITY BLVD, MELBOURNE, FL 32901). MONTHS LATER, WHILE HIS WIFE WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, SHE EASED OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO INCH FORWARD AND AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN, IT VIBRATED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT'S WIFE HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. A POLICE WAS REPORT WAS FILED AND THE OTHER DRIVER HAD REPORTED UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT CONTACT THEY HAD UPDATED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE; THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. THE ENGINE WAS CUT OFF BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. THE CONTACT STATED HE DROVE THROUGH A STOP SIGN AND IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND KEPT ACCELERATING UNTIL IT CAME TO A STOP CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED EMOTIONAL DISTRESS AND HIS WIFE SUSTAINED INJURIES ON HER CHEST BONE INJURIES, RIGHT HAND, AND A CUT LIP. THE CONTACT STATED THEY DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT STATED THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND A CHILD SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO IMPOUND LOT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THE RECALL REPAIRS WAS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,720.
