What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2004 Chevrolet T8500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
Reports by component

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
WHEN DRIVING UP HILL OR IF YOU GIVE IT MORE GAS TO PASS SOMEBODY THE ENGINE HESITATES SEVERELY AND THEN STALLS ON YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. AND THEN YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL EVEN CRANK UP AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED TO ME FOUR TIMES WITHIN TWENTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOMEONE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THAT KIND OF SITUATION THEY COULD EASILY RUN OFF THE ROAD OR HAVE SOMEONE WRECK INTO THEM, ESPECIALLY WHERE I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS GOING AROUND A CURVE IF IT WAS TO QUIT ON YOU AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND ENGINE SHUTS DOWN YOU COULD EASILY RUN OFF A CLIFF. I CONTACTING MY ONSTAR AND HAD THEM DO A DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAID THAT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WAS AFFECTING THE ENGINE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH WAS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACT THAT WAY AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED RIGHT AWAY. HOPEFULLY IT DON'T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THEY HURT BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT. I DRIVE A 2004 CHEVY TAHOE WITH ONLY AROUND 34,000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING! *NM

Transmission
Reports naming the automatic or manual transmission, including shifting behaviour, shudder, slipping and transmission control modules.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
