1999 Chevrolet Van Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Chevrolet Van, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

SEAT RETAINING BOLTS "FELL OUT" WHILE BRAKING FOR MAJOR ROADWAY. SEAT PIVOTED ABRUPTLY TOSSING DRIVER INTO STEERING WHEEL AND ONTO FLOOR. DRIVER STOPPED VEHICLE WITH HAND ON BRAKE WITHIN A FEW FEET OF A PASSING SEMI-TRAILER TRUCK TRAVELING AN ESTIMATED 60 MPH. A FRACTION OF A SECOND LATER AND FATALITIES WOULD HAVE BEEN CERTAIN! THE SEATS ARE PART OF A MARK III CONVERSION. THE RETAINING BOLTS APPEAR TO BE FASTENED WITH ALUMINUM WASHERS THAT OBVIOUSLY DO NOT HOLD UP WELL. THE SEAT HAS BEEN REPLACED; HOWEVER, I DO NOT KNOW IF THE DEFECT HAS BEEN APPROPRIATELY RECTIFIED.

WE RECENTLY MOVED FROM NY TO TEXAS, AND WE TRANSPORTED OUR VAN THROUGH A AUTO CARRIER. WHEN THE VAN ARRIVED, WE WENT TO OPEN THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR AND THIS ONE ALMOST FELL TO THE GROUND. WE WERE GOING TO SEND IT TO FIX, AFTER GETTING A SMALL CHECK FROM THE AUTO CARRIER, BUT MY HUSBAND HAPPENED TO HEAR A REPORT ON THE TV IN NY ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH THE SLIDING DOORS IN CHEVROLET VANS, THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. I NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN WHO ARE AT RISK. WE ARE UNABLE TO USE THIS DOOR. *JB
